No that was not the problem. The problem is that I had the message that the used ink tank is full. I need to know how to empty tank which I think is a pad in a holder.

Hi

To clean the pads you need to remove them from the bottom of the printer. Wash them properly, wear gloves as your hands will be completely green or black or similar if you don't. Also your sink may become colorfull but you can wash it off.

after they are as clean as they come you need to dry them for 2-4 days until they are completely dry again and put them back in. You can actually purchase repalcement pads for example from ebay if you don't want to bother washing them, as it takes quite alot of time.

The printer will most likely still complain that the pads are full, a special reset is needed.

For Printer Model: Canon S9000, S300, S400, i550, i560, i850, i860, i865, i9100, i9950, PIXMA iP3000:

1. Turn off printer
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.
8. Your printer should respond as normal.

If the above did not work then do this:

    Canon i550, i560, i850, i950, i960 (May work with i860, i865)

    1. Start with the printer OFF

    2. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER

    3. release RESUME

    4. press RESUME twice, then release POWER

    5. Let green light blink until printer is done moving print head.

    6. Select functions below with RESUME press POWER to execute:

Number of presses - light color - function

0 presses - green - Test print (or exit service mode on i960)

1 press - orange - EEPROM info print (plus grid nozzle diagnostic on i960)

    2 presses - green - EEPROM initialize

3 presses - orange - Reset waste ink counter

so on step 6 you would press Resume 3 times and then power to execute reset waste ink couter. If it didn't work try again.

The tank, is more like pad. which is stored in the bottom of the printer. You can not easily replace or get this pad out. You need to take apart the printer some what, quite alot even.

So you need to grab your screwdriver and start unscrewing the casing of the printer to get it apart.

Are you sure you still want to do it? If you want guidance in each step of the way in taking apart the machine to get to the ink pads, please purchase a service manual http://www.2manuals.com/product_info.php...

  • Press the "ON" button on the top of the printer, then wait for the green light located to the right of the "ON" button to stop flashing.

  • Lift the front cover up and wait for the print head holder to center itself. Note that the four ink tanks are contained within the print head holder.

  • Push the plastic tab on the front of the empty ink tank toward the cartridge to release it, then lift the tank out of the print head holder.

  • Peel the colored safety sticker off the replacement ink tank.

  • Pull the colored plastic cap off the bottom of the replacement ink tank.

  • Lower the ink tank into position within the print head holder, then press downward on the "PUSH" sticker on top of the tank until the tank clicks into position.

  • Lower the printer's front cover and wait a few seconds for the print head holder to move to the right side of the printer.

How do I do a waste ink bypass to recycle ink from waste tank to avoid it getting full again?

There is a small tube running from the pump to the waste ink pads. If you connect another tube to that, you would be able to run it out to an external bottle. Please note this won't stop the waste ink counter from doing it's thing.

My Canon i560 stopped printing- snall window

That error says the purge assembly is not moving properly, check for paper stuck over on the right where the printhead parks, also if the squeegee is stuck over the cleaning pads you need to push it back to allow the pads to come up properly.

How do you gain access to the "used ink tank" on the Canon i560?

Well Fay after much research, the best answers I've seen actually came from other experts on this website. The link below will take you to another Fixya page with several, very good solutions to the same problem you have. My personal favorite was soaking up waste ink from the pad with kleenex or some other absorbent material as you won't need to take apart your machine. You merely remove the ink cartridges and carriage to gain access to the pad/sponge that Canon calls it's waste tank. I do wish you well and hope you come back to let me know if you were able to fix your machine.

    Used ink tank is full

Dis-assemble and replace or clean the wastee ink absorbing pad. Rinse (lots of work) until it is very light grey. Dry and then re-install.

Download and run the maintenance software to reset the counter in the printer.
