Hard disc & main PCA any one of them faulty.. Through light pattern we can estimate which part is faulty...Read carefully, understand the indications..
Led pattern: Power supply LED as 1
Formatter leds 3nos from left to right as 2,3 & 4..

* indicates "on"
# indicates "off"
& indicates "flashing"

Note down which LED are on.off & flashing, compare with above said indications find out the faulty part.. My Hp Designjet T1120 fails - 11_19_2011_3_40_14_pm.jpg

I am having a similar problem. Last night the screen appeared blank and frozen, but still illuminated. I tried turning the plotter on and off and pulling out all of the ink and connections in an attempt to reset it. The problem still persists and currently the if it is the "III" led is flash, with the other three lights being on. DO you have any solutions to this issue?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Guys did anyone solve this? I have a HP DesignJet T1120 24" and am having the exact same problem ("I" light is on, "II" and "III" lights are off on the formatter board and i get an illuminated screen and flashing 'on' button). After speaking with HP support over the phone I bought a replacement formatter board only to find that this doesnt solve the problem. Very disappointing! And i just hope that they will take the part back or at least change it for another part. I am going to try next to replace the HDD and just pray its not the PCA board which i can replace myself and we have no one licensed in the country (Seychelles) to do it. Before I do though, is there something that I am overlooking that I cant try in the meantime? This is really a crappy situation to be in. It is almost getting to a stage where i have to throw the machine in the bin when its hardly ever been used.

Hey Vinaya, you seem to know quite a bit about this printer and I am having trouble understanding your explanation so I was wondering what you would make of the errors I am getting (see attached pictures). I can rule out the formatter board as I have already replaced it and am getting the same problem. If it is the PCA board is this something that I can replace myself? Thanks for your advice :)

Sorry for late reply...Light pattern indication "Formatter" faulty only. If you are getting same behavior even replaced genuine/good Formatte, some more exercise you need to do.. Are you ready?.. 1. Remove Formatter from printer slot, power on printer, check.. same behavior? Then its not Formatter/Hard drive faulty. Remove Formatter plastic panel, re-fix it in slot properly.. check (Due to bad assembling Formatter won\'t fix properly in slot).2.Check "Star Wheel unit", is it broken?remove star wheel connector, power on & check for the display.. 3.Remove service station(Q6683-60187) connector check.4.Remove all connector(ISS,Display,Trailing cable star wheel connector etc) on main PCA(Q6687-60057) Power on & check for the light pattern.Found different light pattern?.Power on after each connector connected to main PCA. Check for which connector faulty(If any electronic/motorized part draws more power, power supply unable to supply sufficient power to the printer, results malfunctions).5. Check power supply voltages.. If found low voltages, replace it.Even if you are facing any problem let me know.

Ok folks, for anyone who is reading this attempting to solve their own problem with the T1120 I thought I ought to clarify how I fixed the problem.
Despite error messages indicating that the problem was related to the formatter board, it was in fact the Main PCA board. Expensive to replace but i am just relieved that its working again. I wasted 18months and replaced the formatter board and the onboard HDD before managing to sort the problem out. I also had to get a technician in to change the part as its not particularly easy to do it on your own without a bit of printer expertise.
Good luck.

Update firmware

firmware is not likely to cure this fault , this is usually the first and only sign of the power supply failing ( can you hear a gentle buzzing noise near the back cover?) does the display take a little time for the characters to light up- it may even throw up a hdd error on initialize .
after a quick check of the display panel my first stop would be change the power supply.

Usually is a bad Main PCA if the display (front panel) is plugged in correctly.
Check the flat cable under the display to make sure it is fully plugged in.
Parts replacement sequence as recommended by HP is:
Main PCA, then Formatter, then Front Panel.

Error 08:11

There is no communication between the Front Panel and the Main PCA.
You are going to need a qualified DesignJet tech to check out the cables
to the Front Panel and the Main PCA and to the formatter.
You could possibly need a formatter, Main PCA, Starwheel assemby, or a front panel.

The printer should now move the carriage to an accessible position.
Open the top cover.
