Question about Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 Digital Camera

2 Answers

My Dimage Z6 camera has trouble with its auto focus. It works better when zooming but I often do not want to zoom in. Often I depress the shutter 1/2 way and the focus is red not white. Pointing at other things at the same distance does not usually help as suggested by the manual.

I tried blowing away any dirt and it did not help. Usually the focus works when zooming in but not otherwise. I don't know how to stick strip of paper between the lens shutter and the outer support ring. Wouldn't I have to dismantle the camera to do that? Would you please advise?

I don't want to replace the lens assembly

I believe the camera is not set to macro mode. I just push the button with the little flower to cycle from Macro Off to Macro to S Macro and back to Macro Off. Is this correct? Thanks in advance for your hand holding in case I'm mistaken.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. To start with try to blow compressed air around the lens cover so that if there is any dirt it cleans if off. You can also stick a thin strip of paper between the lens shutter and the outer support ring & move it in a way that it clears the debris that's stuck in there. If still the issue is not resolved then you'll have to replace the lens assembly & lens mechanism to fix this issue. Please accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Please confirm whether you have left the camera set to "macro" mode by mistake. If you are unfamiliar with your camera and cannot consult the user manual then please let me know and I'll provide specific details.

Digital Camera Auto Focus Fault

It may be the mechanism is sticking slightly, which means taking any bits off and getting your puff-brush or can of compressed air blow into it.

It also may be a firmware issue, try going to the Minolta website, follow links for support and downloads, see if there are any firmware upgrades for your camera.

Konica Minolta Dimage Damage

I had the same problem with mine, a minor fall cracked this, I disassembled the unit and one of the springs that hold the main sensor was broken, thus the sensor vibrates instead of "floating" when the camera is turned on. There are two possible solutions: The first is to get a faulty Z6 from eBay and get the parts (the main sensor assembly) and have it replaced. (If you are not comfortable working with 1mm screws, you'd better go with the parts to a camera repair shop and explain them the problem. The second solution is un-elegant but useful: If you disconnect the anti-shake circuit from the main board you won't have the annoying vibration at start, and the focus will work properly. I've done this and I am happy with the result (I rarely used the anti-shake feature, so I don't miss it). For reference, the anti-shake circuit ribbon is the one entering the mainboard just under the left side of the screen.

Ejoy.....
PS. if you have dark spots, chech that the sensor assembly is not too out of place or that a piece of the broken assembly is on the way. Realign it in place (and please don't touch it). and asseble tha camera back

Dimage Z3 blurred zoom images

I don't think there's any problem. Simply, a longer zoom means that - without a faster shutter speed - there is an increased probability for camera shake. Additionally, cameras usually struggle with focus in longer zoom. To be sure that there isn't a fault, do this:

1) Place the camera on a tripod or other sturdy surface
2) For additional stability (and to avoid camera shake due to shutter button movement), select the self-timer
3) Focus and take the shot.
If it's still blurry, then yeah, there's a problem

Focussing

Two possible solutions. The camera may be set to Macro. The lens may have failed. If the camera is not set to macro then the lens has to be replaced and the camera reprogrammed.

IESP auto focus

iESP is the default auto focus setting for the C-8080 Wide Zoom camera. It uses a contrast detecting system to analyze the entire image by comparing the subject against the background to achieve focus. When the shutter button is pressed half way on the C-8080 Wide Zoom, the AF target mark automatically moves to an area of the image where it finds the optimal contrast.

Focus on a particular subject?

If the camera is having trouble doing an auto focus you can try the FOCUS LOCK feature. This feature allows you to focus on another subject roughly the same distance away from you, and then move the camera back to your original subject and take your picture without losing that focus. First turn the camera on and locate the AutoFocus Target Mark in the center of the LCD. The AF Target Mark resembles an open and close bracket [ ]. Position this AF Target Mark on a subject roughly the same distance away from you as the subject that the camera is having trouble focusing on. Press the shutter button halfway enabling the lens to focus. While keeping the shutter button pressed halfway, move the camera back to include the subject you originally wanted in the image, then press the shutter fully. (Please see page 42 in the D-535 Zoom Reference Manual in Section 3, under the heading titled “If Correct Focus Cannot Be Obtained”, for a more detailed explanation.)
