Bauer portable gas room heater fault diagnosis

Hi, problem is when depressing the "control" knob and sparking the center ceramic lights but even when holding down for +- 10 mmins and slowly releasing the gas control knob the fire dies, it has always worked in the past even if a bit temperamental ! Pls hrlp, Thanks

SOURCE: Gas wall heater won't light

You need to bled the line longer and when you get lited hold down for a good minute.When the gas gave out ,there could trash in the line.I would take the line off and blow gas through it undtil you can smell it.

SOURCE: Pilot lights but main burner won't

sometime if the heater has been sitting for days spiders get into the burner area or the area between the tank and the burner and make a web blocking the flow. I have taken a compressed air in a can like the ones you use for computers laptops and blow air up the shaft and around the burner wait 2 minutes then try again. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 blowouts to work.

Holding the button down enables gas to go to the pilot. When it lights you will see the flame touching two rod like devices. The small one is the igniter. The second one is a thermocouple. A thermocouple is a bimetalic device (2 disimilar metals) that when heated produce a small curren, this current in turns keeps the valve open for the gas to flow when you let go of the button. This is a safety feature. If the flame goes out on the pilot the thermocouiple cools and closed the valve shutting off the gas so you don't go boom! It sounds like the thermocouiple is bad or missaligned. If it is missaligned it will take longer to get hot enough to hold the valve open. Another thought would be the flame is not shooting out far enough (not enough gas pressure, clogged oriface on pilot(previous writer, leak but you get the idea. In my manual it had a picture of how the flame should look hitting the thermocouple. Good luck. My problem is I assumed that the regulator on my construction heater was the correct size. Maybe not. I have not had any luck getting the pilot to light at all. I hope I have not damaged the internal regulator.

SOURCE: Torpedo heater wont stay lit.

Do you have the serial number or the manufacture date? There are some design changes and I would need to know the year of manufacture to assist accurately. Usually it is a relay or the thermocouple connection that will affect the unit staying lit.

SOURCE: Rinnai burner goes out when ignition button is released

The thermocouple [s] require replacement, or in my experience try servicing the unit first. There is an injector for the main pilot and a secondary injector for the flame thrower ignition. Both of these are prone to blocking due to dust and can be enough to shut the unit down. Although usually this is thermocouple related as you are manually keeping the unit running when you hold down the button, if the tcouple is broken it wont send enough millivolts to hold the magnetic valve open when you release the button.

SOURCE: Gas stops flowing when I release the knob after lighting

Before you go changing parts, clean up the pilot assembly. When you heat metal and let it cool and heat it again it causes it to corrode. Also for some reason these areas seem to attract little spiders who make their homes here. This causes gas flow problems which in turn could affect the size and direction the pilot flame. For if it does not touch the thermocouple, thermopile or whatever that little thingy is called that tells the gas valve to allow the gas to flow...it will not tell the gas valvle to let it flow. Remove the corrosion, spiders, spider webs and any other insects then sand the thermocouple, thermopile or whatever that little thingy is with a rough sandpaper to remove corrosion. It will likely work after that.

I maintain six similar heaters for a restaurant in Charlotte, NC. Rust and bugs seems to be what gets them every time.

Pilot light blew out by a fan..I turned the control off..How do I Ignite Please


First locate where to light pilot. You can do this by following thin aluminum colored tubing from control valve to inside heater.In general on top of your gas control valve is a knob. Turn indicator of this knob to pilot and depress knob. This will start gas flow to pilot at end of thin tube. Hold this knob in the depressed position and light pilot. DO NOT release knob for 30 -45 seconds. Then release knob and pilot will remain lit. Then turn knob to on position. If pilot will not stay lit you may need a new thermo coupler, which senses heat from flame to keep pilot gas flow open.

Williams 5009662 pilot light went out, can't tell where to relight


you relight it ,,but it is better you are lyning down to see where to light it,,,but some have a red botton that you push to relight it ,,,like a bbq grill it makes a spark and when you turn the control knob on pilot to light it

We have a fairly new heater. went to turn on the pilot light and it won't ignite. what do you think is wrong? gas has been turned on before igniting


Sometimes it takes a few seconds for gas to reach the pilot. When you place the thermostat knob/gas control in the pilot position you must then depress it (push it down and hold it down). Wait a few seconds while holding it down, then press the ignitor button with your other hand while continuing to keep the thermostat knob depressed. You may have to hold the knob down and press the ignitor several times. You should see a spark at the pilot if the ignitor is working properly. Continue to hold the knob down for 30 seconds after the pilot lights, then release the knob, it will pop up & you can then rotate it to lo/med/hi and the heater will come on.,

How do I lite a wall room heater


First, turn off the gas valve for at least 5 min and ventilate the room. Most wall heaters are lit the same as a water heater. Find a red button to push or turn the gas valve knob to the pilot position. While pressing the red button or the gas valve knob, hold a match to light the pilot flame. After it lights continue holding the knob for one or two minutes. If the flame goes out when you release the knob the thermocouple is probably bad.

they will be air in the gas line , and the pilot injector being so small it will take ages for gas to come through , you need to purge the gas line undo a union or nut or pilot suppy to purge the line of air test joints after with soapy water .

Not sure how to relight the pilot light. Some point during the night it just went off. Not sure how or why that happened either. I have tried to do a few things but need help


To light your pilot you will need to find the gas valve assembly. It will be a block of aluminum with a plastic knob and a few pipes attached to it. Once you find it, rotate the knob to the pilot marking on the knob. You will know when you are at the proper setting because you will be able to depress the knob into the gas valve about 3/8". Once you do that, there will be a small red button which you can snap causing a spark at the pilot. There may ba a small viewing port covered by a removable metal shield. OK, Depress and hold in the knob, snap the red button a few times. Keep holding the knob in, look into the viewing port for a blue flame. If no flame, snap the button a few more times looking for a spark. Once you see the flame stop snapping but continue to hold the knob in. Count to 30. Slowly let the knob out watching that the flame stays on. If it starts to go out, quickly depress the knob and hold for a minute. If it continues to go out, you have a bad thermocouple and it is not letting the pilot stay lit. If it stays lit, rotate the knob to On. A few seconds later and if the unit is calling for heat, it should light the main burner. If you need a new thermocouple, go to a good hardware store or Farm Center (bring the old part with you) and ask for a new one.

How do I know where to light the pilot on my wall heater? I'm not exactly sure where the pilot is. I know where the button is and the pilot knob but do I need to turn the gas on and how far should I turn...


I can try and help. Get a working flash light. If you know where the gas valve is, good I will take you from there. On the gas valve you will find a 1/4" diameter aluminum tube and a 1/16" diameter copper wire both screwed into the valve. Follow the larger of the two tubes toward the heat chamber. The tube will enter inside the chamber and you may have to unscrew a cover to get to the pilot. The tube goes to the pilot assembly. If you have button that snaps when you push it in, that is the pilot starter. Look thru a small viewing port and snap the button. You should see a blue spark. This is where your pilot assembly is.If there is no spark, your sparker is broke. You will have to use a ling match or gas grill starter to light the pilot. OK so if you have good spark, turn the gas valve knob to Off. Now turn it to Pilot and depress the knob into the gas valve. It should go in about 1/2". As you hold the knob in, snap the sparker button a few times and continue to hold the knob in. Look in the little window for a flame. Continue to hold in the knob for about 30 seconds after the flame lights. Now let the knob out and check that the flame is still lit. If it is, turn the knob to the On position. You should be OK from there. If you had to use a match, prior to putting the knob to the on position, replace any screws or plates you had to remove to get to the pilot. Good luck!

You will first need to turn the control knob to pilot. Then depress the control knob button and hold it. Then press the push button piezo igniter several times until pilot lights or open pilot inspection cover and manually light pilot with match/lighter. You may need to hold the control knob for at least a minute. Then release the control knob and if the pilot stays lit then turn the control knob to on. If it does not light then repeat the process again.
