Have had laptop for about 6months and both usb connections have been working all the time and yesterday, no detection of any usb dvice is connected to T42 laptop. Power is charging my phone and I can see power going to my external hard drive but no recognition on "My Computer" of device.
No error's identified prior to USB malfunction.
Confident I was using mozilla, itunes, MS Outlook just before I turned on laptop again to use USB connections. I have looked at IBM drivers, updated new BIOS, tried other usb devices to connect, updated all windows updates.

Are you sure to do a reinstall of the OS because this is a lengthly task to complete, I already have backups from last week for all my data (luckily). Is there any evidence on this website of a success to pass this problem?

    Dear,

in this scenerio, I suggest you some other options instead of reinstallation of OS.
    1) First check is there any yellow or red mark under other device, USB devices and System Devices. (Under Device Manager)/Uninstall the USB drivers and restart your PC. USB Drivers will be recognised it self. It should resolve your issue.
    2) You can just restore your PC with the earlier date.Start > Programs > Accessories > System Rools > System Restore. Choose the date when it was working fine.. Let it be restart. It will resolve your problem..

I'm trying to bypass the administrator password on an IBM ThinkPad transnote. It has windows 200 Professional on it, but I can't remember the password. It has no optical drive, no floppy drive, how do I...

I found a website where you can find the OS as an iso image. The Transnote has USB ports. So if you can find a USB CD-ROM drive you should be able to reinstall the OS.
On the site there are some drivers, LotusNotes and a few other goodies for you.
Here is the link to the Transnote owner's site.

I hope it works out for you.

I have just reinstalled my friends IBM Thinkpad R50e with XP and I can't get internet working, wired or wireless

This the common catch 22 that happens when you install XP and it does not have the network drivers for the laptop you are working with on the disc. The fix is to go on the internet and download the drivers for your device, but wait... you can't get on the internet!

You will need a 2nd computer and a thumb drive/blank CD to resolve this. On the 2nd computer go to IBM's site to download your drivers here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-55042.html

Download the network drivers to your thumb drive/CDR then install them on the R50e. In the future you should always keep a thumb drive or a burnt cd of your network drivers handy BEFORE an OS reinstall. Once you have the network drivers installed you can fix pretty much anything else that needs drivers. Also, be sure to run windows update and get all the patches for XP. It will take a long time, but it is VERY important.

Probably the display driver is messed up. Best option is to reinstall the operating system.

An alternative is to have a Linux-savvy friend try to boot it up
with a Linux-live rescue CD to see if that fixes the display problem and maybe to salvage your personal data from the hard drive.

You don't say what OS you run, but have you tried reinstalling your audio files? This will probably fix your problem.
If you run Windows XP, 2000 or 98SE, this link will download the correct drivers :
