Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a room air conditioner, Zenith ZW6500R and have been using it with no problems at all for about two years. It sits in the window and drains out the back into the yard. For some reason, it has been draining from the front into the room and the drywall below and around the window is saturated. What would be causing the unit to drain out of the front?

The unit could be slightly tilted to the inside or the drain tube going from the inside section to the outside is stopped up needing to be cleaned.

Where can i buy freon for ZW6500R Zenith window unit. 66012

Freon is no longer used for window AC units. You need R142a refrigerant gas. Most auto supply stores and even Walmart carries it. However, having the gas is one thing. Having all the proper equipment to evacuate and recharge your compressor is another. Please be careful. It's best left to the pros.

I have a zenith AC model ZW6500R, It was installed one year ago, It simply dosen't blow cool air anymore. Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks ...

Generally after one hard summer these units need servicing especially if it is running in a dusty area. Check the filter in the front and if possible, pull the unit out of the case and check the inside of the rear coil (located behind the motor fan blade) The coil is probably stopped up and the unit is overheating and not able to cool properly. You may be able to shine a flashlight through the side of the unit and see if the coil is dirty.

It's called a condensation tray (depending on what part of the world you're in). Generally, they are a custom made add on. If you have one made, have the metal shop put a drain hole near the rear of the tray/pan, that has a short section of copper pipe attached to it. That way, you can connect a hose to it to drain the water to the ground (if feasible). If not, at least away from the window frame.

Hope this helps you solve the problem.

(Tilted) Plasmaire spits water into room....

What your problem is is that water coming back into your face is condesation. Appearently there is a clog preventing your condensation water from draining out the back side of the a/c You can remove the a/c from it's sleeve, take it outside and with a pump sprayer (Type used for spraying insecticide) filled with water spray around the base of the a/c where the condensor coil sits (you should see a small drain channel in this area) If this drain channel is clogged water will back up and the squirrel cage will pick it up throwing it out into the house.. Good Luck on your repairs

Sears Plasmaire spits water into room

It's probably just holding water somewhere and getting thrown out. I've seen people drill holes on the bottoms to drain water quicker.

Droplets of water are coming from the vents and it's making a noise like something is rattling around inside. What could this be?

The problem with this unit is that the evaporator, or the part of the air conditioner that 'creates' the colder air is not draining correctly. Pertaining to a window unit, it needs to be installed correctly with the correct amount of tilt toward outside, to allow the evaporator condensation water to drain. You may also want to check to make sure there aren't any plugged drain holes in the air conditioner housing.

The rattling you hear is most likely the blower fan spinning against the held water inside the unit.

I hope this helps! :)

Zenith window a/c compressor keeps turning on an

Your compressor has an electrical protector that is heat activated. It will disengage the compressor under several scenarios. Most likely the unit filter is dirty or the unit has lost refrigerant. Also assure that the unit has adequate electricity supply,no extention cords or undersized wiring.
