Did the unit ever say the street names? Not all models have this feature. When you turn it will say when to turn and you can read the street name on the top of the screen. Here is a link to the manual:

Thank you,

You need to make sure your Locale setting (language) is set to one that is marked with the TTS function.

Here are the steps to follow to set up the "text to speech" function in nuvi 350:

From the main page (the one with "Where to", "View map"), go to "setting"(on the right hand side panel), then click on "Locale".

Click on the second icon (the red lips) and then choose a language that has "TTS" in brackets at the end. The names after each language simply refers to male/female voices.

For example:
American English-Jack(TTS) activates a male "text to speech" voice and American English-Jill(TTS) activates a female voice.

The default option for Locale is American English (w/o TTS) so if you choose default, your GPS will not read out street names.

How do I reset my 260w to name the streets

The GPS is equipped to name streets even with voice.
Sometimes this options are disabled by the user.
In the case of the streets, the closer you zoom in, the more detail you get. This would include street names.
Get the manual here: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/nuvi200_OwnersManual.pdf

good luck

No vocal directions

The "vocal directions" are a function of the Text-To-Speech, or TTS. When you are picking a voice for your unit, you will usually find 2 listings for each voice, and one of them will be designated TTS. Choose that one and your voice should give you spoken directions and street names.

Gamin nuvi 260W - Cannot set to text-to-voice.

Garmin automotive GPS devices that have text-to-speech (speak street names) are also loaded with pre-recorded voices that do not speak street names (example: "Turn Right in 500 feet"). If one of these pre-recorded voices has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
To change the voice prompt to spoken street names:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings*
  3. Select Language or Locale
  4. Touch the Voice language option
  5. Select a voice option that includes a person's name (ex. Emily) or TTS. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Select OK
The device should now speak street names.
*Note: The Setting option is not required on all nuvi units.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.
