Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Help, and bear with me, I barely know what I'm talking about. I bought an inexpensive laptop (everex stepnote) several years ago. The power adapter quit on it, and I got one of those adaptable ones to replace it. It worked great for a while, but then it stopped holding a charge, and stopped powering on all together. I was told that the motherboard is shot on it. I've since replaced this laptop, but there are pictures and music and I'm sure some other stuff that I'd like to get from it if possible, I'm thinking that the memory on it might be ok, since it's the motherboard that died...? So what'd be the best way to recover my stuff, if it's even possible?

Best way to recover your stuff is to get the hard drive out of your old laptop. To do this, you will have to unscrew a couple of screws on the bottom of the laptop to get access to the hard drive. After that, you can uninstall the hard drive from the laptop, & take it with you to a computer accessories shop. There they can assist you in purchasing an external box which fits the type of interface of your hard drive (either IDE or SATA). You can then install your hard drive inside this box, & then attach the box to a USB port in your current laptop. This way, the old hard drive will behave like an external storage device (similar to a USB flash stick), & you can then pull out your old data from the hard drive. Moreover, you will have an external portable storage device.

Lost my adapter (65w), bought a universal laptop adapter but it is rated at 90w. will this work for my everex stepnote nc1502?

Correct voltage Greg?

Then yes it will work

More Wattage means more Amperage.

Same voltage, but more Amperage

(Voltage times Amperage = Wattage )

KEEP the inside of your laptop CLEAN
Make sure you occasionally replace the Thermal Paste on the Processor (CPU), and Thermal Pad on the graphics chipset. (GPU)

Service Manual for disassembling the laptop?
Everex is out of business (To my knowledge), and I see no service manual available.

I should be able to step by step you through it, anyway; if you desire

Just bought a new battery for my everex stepnote and it will not charge the battery

The charger is at fault if the battery does not charge
Replace the power pack. Many inexpensive ones are found on Ebay which are brand new for $10 on average

Power cord

You need an 18 to 20 volt AC adapter for this Laptop.
You can get them on ebay for really cheap,
If in doubt buy a universal adapter which will fit almost any laptop or lcd monitor.

Will not boot - no power

if it can't power on when using the adapter probably try a new adapter... if it runs on battery the problem if in the adapter but if you cant run it on both power options you got a problem inside your unit... let a technician see you unit about power problems...
