The choke is built in to the master control lever on the left side. Squeeze the throttle triggerand push the master control lever all the way down. That is choke position.

Got spark good compression. and fule. electric choke. but wont stay running when cold.

The electric choke may not be getting power. The power wire for the electric choke is usually connected to the ignition "on" switch. When the electric choke coil is energized it will open the carb choke plate completely after approximately 3.5 min. Some potential problems could be: 1, The electric choke is getting constant power and therefore is always open or has no power. 2. The carb choke plate needs to be adjusted or the plate hangs up when opening or closing.

Skidoos aren't really my thing being from Texas however if your unit has float bowl type carbs a common problem with bikes and atvs that have cold start only difficulties and the unit has sat untill carbs varnished up or have ethanol corrosion is this. The choke circuit draws fuel from a passageway in the float bowl itself. There is a brass tube on the carb body that inserts into a hole in the wall of the float bowl. this is the choke circuit fuel pick up.There is a very small orifice(jet) in the bottom of this hole that will clog and not allow fuel from the bowl to enter this circuit there by causing no enrichment when using the choke. The unit will normally start fine once hot if you can get it running but has difficulty when choke is required for cold start.. Worth a look. Good luck!

Gas not staying in carb, when cold very hard to start

it sounds like the choke isn't closing on the carburetor when the engine is cold ( more gas, less air). normally step on gas pedal once to close choke before starting. need to find someone familiar with carburetors to help as it can be technical setting it up

After starting the 04 vulcan 800 i push in the choke and it dies. Is this a carb/plug problem or something else?

The machine is doing the right thing by dying. The role of the choke is to block the air intake and allow more gas to go into the carb. It is meant for starting a cold engine. If you apply choke to a running engine, it will flood the carb and cylinder and not allow it to ignite. The spark is enough to ignite a mixture os gas and air and not gas alone. Hence the engine dies. So give choke only when starting under cold/freezing conditions.
There is nothing wrong with your bike.

One problem is related to the other.The dieseling is caused by a rich air/fuel mixture which is caused by the closing choke.So you need to adjust the choke to where it is slightly open when the engine is cold.If it is electric then it has a thermostatic device that positions the choke just cracked open when cold and slowly opens as the engine heats up.Whats happening is the choke may actually be loose and when the engine shuts off the vacuum pulls the choke close creating the combustable rich fuel mixture(if you watched the choke when someone else turns off the engine you'll see the choke flapping while the engine is dieseling).Try putting a screw driver in the carb(with engine running) blocking the choke from closing.Then shut the engine off.It shouldnt diesel.You may have to replace the carb thermostat

1995 Mitsubishi L300 Van 2ltr aspirated motor, Automatic choke revs extremely high on cold start, will not decelerate till engine is hot. How can I remedy this?

If it's carburetor & has automatic choke, then there is probably a screw at side of carb, by step cam that moves with choke . Back it of a little at a time until you get desired cold idle speed. Make sure you turn step cam to setting it would normally be when cold, and choke on, then turn screw out to lower rpm's. Look for a little rod from choke shaft, down to base or side of carb area, to step cam.

Starting my truck

when you pump the gas pedal can you see fuel spray into the carb .sounds like your pump squirter isnt squirting the gas in to start on a cold start similar to the choke coming on ... or your choke isnt coming on ..try rebuilding the carb or a replacement carb if you can.

High idle or no start

headlight front signals some fuses; cleaned carbs; repainted. When I received it it was hard to start. Had to kick it into submission and the choke plunger would not stay out. I've since tightened up the choke plunger friction nut and reclamped it towards the carbs (after cleaning the carbs). Problem #1: I can't remember exactly how the clamp is supposed to be positioned on the bottom of the cable: on the metal cylinder? On the indented part of it? And I have a rubber boot on the carb end of it; this boot just slides around and doesn't seem to even fit over the indented end of the metal cylinder. Problem #2: High idle or no start problem: The only way I can get the bike to start cold is to unclamp the cable (tank off) and yank on the cable. As the bike warms up I let the cable go and clamp it down at the point where the choke plate/linkage/butterfly/whatever is completely closed at the carb and no rise in idle is happening. Then I have a nice idle at 1200 +- 100rpm. While the bike starts right up when hot using this setup, it won't start cold unless I go through the rigamarole again. If I clamp the cable in a position so that it will start cold next time, then once the bike warms up and I turn off the choke, the idle falls at 2500rpm. The choke plate is definitely still open at the carb. It almost seems like the cable is wrong for the bike. I seem to need a larger variance in cable length between choke-on and choke-off. I wouldn't be surprised if the previous owners did something funky with aftermarket parts. Help? ,sound like u got both---send it to the mechanic,,,
