I have to replace the hard drive in my Lenovo N200 0769. How do I reinstall all the drivers? Remember this little gem didn't come with backup disc. Hope that 37 cents they saved really worked out for them!

OK, so I have a new hard drive but it still tells me there is no hard drive detected. Without the Windows disc it tells me media failure. Any ideas or did I just waste $70 for nothing?

You can get all the drivers for your system from this Lenovo page. Also, if this is helpful to you PLEASE make sure to come back to this answer and rate it helpful aka 4 out of 4 thumbs up, it is very important to me and I would be extremely grateful if you could do this.

Thank you, here is the link for the drivers:

So, I basically have to create my own recovery disc. How exactly do I get this done?

You need to reinstall windows using a windows CD, then you can download the drivers I provided up there to reinstall all the devices. I didn't realize you maybe didn't have a windows cd... I thought for some reason you already reinstalled Windows. By law lenovo has to supply you with one if it came with Windows on the system. If you have no access to one (you can even use a friends, just as long as you use the cd-key for your system which should be on the bottom of the laptop usually)... if you don't have access to one you can call Lenovo and they will have to send you one. Lenovo's number if you need it is 1-800-426-7378, if they refuse to give you one ask how you are supposed to reinstall windows. They to my knowledge by law need to give you one so you can reinstall your system.

Hopefully you will read this reply, but as mentioned before you need at least a windows CD or some kind of recovery cd to reinstall to that hard drive. I am quite sure the hard drive is detected, it is just blank so it can't use it at all until it has some software loaded on it...

You need to get some kind of media, a disc, with windows on it. You can also load linux on the machine if you want, it would be better than not being able to use the system at all. You can download a free installation cd that will work with your laptop from here.. you need to copy and paste it unfortunately, or just google ubuntu and go to download -

This sounds like a hard drive issue, if you have a windows backup disc try a fresh install, no luck! remove hardware and reseat back in place, this will sometimes solve the problem, no change! have the hard drive tested.

I bought a laptop with Lonovo Window Vista Ultimate, but when my system crashed and I reinstalled it, But needed to activate kindly assist me

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa!

I believed you are having problem with the Operating System on the laptop itself,. You said you already reinstall it, there are two ways of reinstalling the Operating System on Lenovo, By using One Key Recovery and by using the Recovery Disc. If you are going to use the Recovery Disc, make sure that you boot from the disc itself so it will not ask for any activation key, please follow the steps below.

For One Key Recovery:

1. Turn off the computer.

2. Press the little button near the power button, it usually do have a drawing of an icon that looks like a horse shoe or a headset.

3. There will be a window that will appear which do have three option, One Key Antivirus, One Key Recovery and System Setup. Choose One key Recovery.

4. There will be another window that will appear which do have two option, Restore from initial backup and Restore from user backup,Choose Restore from initial back up

5. It will asked you if you want to continue, Just click on OK or YES.

6. Once done, Reboot the computer.

For Recovery Disc,

1. Insert the disc inside the drive.

2. Turn off the computer then turn it back on and keep on tapping F12

3. There will a window that will appear which do have three options, HDD,ODD/DVD/CD, and NAT, choose ODD/DVD/CD

4. It will asked you to press any key immediately, you will need to press any key immediately so that it will boot from ODD.

5. It will asked you to choose a partition, choose Disc 0 partition 1

6. Reboot computer once done.

I hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FixYa...

I receive a no operation system message while booting

Buy a new hard disk drive! Use the 2 golden Gateway, Applications, Drivers, & Operating System disc, also known as Restoration DVD to reinstall your Gateway programs & operating system. After that, reinstall your backups.

How much disk space do you need? Why buy a 320 GB HDD if you only use 4 GB? So, keep the bytes down if you don't need them and that will keep the costs down, too!

The Gateway support discs can be had at: www.Gateway.com/Support .

Going to reset my computer. Where can I find the reset button?

If you're trying to restore the Computer to factory settings, then you can use the VAIO Recovery Center that is shipped with the Computer.

NOTES:
  1. Click the Start button, then click Help and Support . NOTE: If the Help and Support link is not available on the Start menu, re-enable the link in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window.
  2. In the Windows Help and Support window, click Backup & Recovery .
  3. Under Backup & Recovery , under VAIO Recovery Center , click Launch VAIO Recovery Center .
  4. In the VAIO Recovery Center window, under Choose a program , click to select the desired option: NOTES:
    • It is strongly recommended that recovery discs be created to help restore files if the operating system will not start. Recovery discs are bootable and can be used to perform a recovery on a properly functioning hard drive.
    • The Windows Backup and Restore option opens the Backup and Restore Center provided with the Windows Vista® operating system. This provides the ability to save information from the hard drive, such as personal data files, and restore previously backed up data.
    • Computer problems related to hardware can be diagnosed using the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics option.
    • One or more drivers or factory-installed applications may be reinstalled with the Reinstall Programs or Drivers option.
    • The entire (C:) drive can be restored to its original, factory-installed condition by selecting Restore C: Drive .
    • Choosing Restore Complete System will restore the entire (C:) drive, while removing or restoring the Recovery Drive partition. Modifying the size of the hard drive partitions is also an option with this type of recovery. This option requires you to insert Recovery DVDs created using the Create Recovery Discs option.
    • To remove all data from the hard drive, including the operating system, all programs and personal data, choose the Wipe and Erase Data option. This option is provided for the convenience of advanced users who want to install a different operating system, and who want to ensure all data has been removed from the hard drive first. All other users are strongly urged to avoid selecting this option.

Smart failure predicted on hard disk 4

Yes usually that error means that the hard drive is telling the controller card that there are some problems with the drive.

Although the drive may still work, it is highly recommended to replace it with a new drive.

I would replace the drive but keep the old drive just in case, after re-installing Vista you find that there is additional data you did not backup or remember to backup.

Just replace the drive, and if it's a Dell laptop, use the Dell Vista reinstallation DVD, and it will not ask for a keycode to reinstall.

May also want to go to another computer and go to support.dell.com and click Drivers and Downloads. Type the service tag and go ahead and download all drivers needed (i.e. network card, sound card, etc.) so after you reinstall Vista, if there are any drivers missing you will be ready to install them.

Hope this helps.

If the backup and recovery disk are for that model of computer , just remove VISTA or Reformat the hard driver using software outside of Window, then reinstall all the Xp stuff, just as if you had a new hard drive. Save all personal files first, of course..
