Furnace quits with 4 blinking lights on panel

Most likely it's a sensor triggering the unit off. You need to have someone determine which lights are blinking (there is a code to them) and then find out what the code refers to. Could be a simple as dirty filters.

2 Stage Furnaces More Comfort and Save Money

Two stage hot air furnaces can save you money and make your high efficiency furnace even better. With your furnace running at low fire instead of cranking up to the highest heating output in mild weather you can be more comfortable while saving money.

Many people think that they are getting the best they can get by buying a high efficiency single stage furnace. What they often don’t realize is that they could do better yet and for a few dollars more have a high efficiency 2 stage furnace that could keep them much more comfortable.

There are 2 stage hot air furnaces that are now available that will only run at half fire if the full fire is not needed. With a two stage furnace in mild weather when only a little bit of heat is needed, the furnace will have longer run times on low fire. This will keep you room temperatures from getting too hot before the thermostat reacts and shuts the furnace off again. This will help to keep your temperatures from overshooting the set point and help to keep your home much more comfortable.

Many of these two stage furnaces also have variable speed blowers that run at a lower speed when heating on low fire. This will also help to save money on your electric bill, because these blowers use very little electric when running at these low speeds. Air noise from the blower running at a high speed is also reduced.

If you are thinking of replacing or installing a hot air furnace, make sure that you ask your contractor to give you a price on installing a two stage furnace. The price difference probably will not be much higher than a high efficiency single stage furnace. However the comfort of the two stage furnace coupled with the electric savings will make the extra money well worth it.

Intertherm furnace M1BG wont fire

Make sure the gas valve is turned to the ON position after you had it in PILOT position. Also check the thermostat low voltage wiring @ furnace...jumper the Red & White wires to bypass the thermostat temporarily. Make sure there is 24 volts on you low voltage circuit.

Furnace GMS9/GCS9 Cycles twice and then fires up most of the time and then it won't fire and shuts down. To restart it We have to shut the 110/115 power off for a few seconds and turn it back on and it...

Furnace ignition controls will attempt to light the furnace 3 times with several minutes delay between each attempt. If it fails to light or the ignition module fails to detect it lit after the 3 tries, the module will lock out and require a "Hard Reset" to try again. It is a common feature in nearly all newer furnaces intended to let you know you have a serious problem. You should call a service technician for this because there are a number of things that may be causing this flame failure. Please grade my answer on how much I have helped you. Thank you for the opportunity. Roger

Why heater coils glow?

It sounds like you're describing one of two things. The hot surface ignitor in a gas-fired furnace, or the resistive heat strips in an electric furnace.

The hot surface ignitor in a gas-fired furnace lights the burners. This ignitor in modern furnaces serves the same purpose as the standing pilot flame did in older furnaces. It provides the required heat to ignite the gas at the burners. Without an ignition source, a gas-fired furnace cannot provide heat. When the ignitor is activated it will glow bright orange or yellow.

The resistive heat strips in an electric furnace actually provide the heat to a home or building. When the furnace turns on, the heat strips are activated and usually glow orange when they reach peak temperature. In almost all cases, the heat strips are not easily seen or accessed without removing covers or panels inside the furnace.

Read a forum here about the furnace not firing and followed instructions to check gas valve. After the plug was removed and I tried to fire the furnace, there was no noticeable pressure at that orifice....

Hi,

I would be careful how much I did with the plug removed.... it is a great way to start a fire and get hurt...

Electric furnace wire heating up

you should have a 3- conductor # 6-3 copper wire running to this 60 amp breaker @ the furnace to the panel if this is not the case you should replace this with a # 6 as of now as it is a fire hazard as it is and needs to be fixed at once , # 10 -2 wire is only good for 30 amps and a 60 amp breaker will not trip under fault condition and you could have a fire , if you need further assistance on this let me know and i will try to help

Check your thermostat anticipator setting. If you dont know how to do this don't try on your own or you may damage your thermostat.
