Question about Gateway GTW-P42M303 42 in. Plasma Television

Open Question

I have a Gateway GTW-P42M203 Plasma Television. The picture suddenly would not come on. There's sound, but no picture. At one point, the picture came back and stayed a while, then went back off. We've purchased a new TV and contacted a person who buys non-working TVs, but he said there were no parts available for the Gateway Plasmas. Is this true? I would like to sell the TV for some small amount for parts. Do you know a location that takes these. Have all the paperwork, cords etc - everything in great condition. Any ideas?

SOURCE: The screen on my Gateway Plasma 42 in TV went

I have over 10 years experience in electronic tech support.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. The question will be, is the part still available? Before paying a TV repair person $75+ to diagnose the problem, ask yourself if you're willing to pay $250 minimum to fix this particular set. Also keep in mind that most TVs that old have a very limited number of replacement parts still available. Normally it will cost at least $75 to have the set looked at by a repair shop (diagnostics). If the part needed to complete the repair isn't available, you won't get that money back.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

SOURCE: GTW-P42M203 shut off and will not stay on

Chances are there are cracked solder on one of the boards. This is a common problem with Gateways. If you're handy with soldering then this is an easy fix.
