i was talking about the place where you put the fabric softener in my washing machine. it gets built up and i am not sure how to clean it. Then the softener doesn't work correctly. You can remove it and run hot water through it, but that doesn't last very long. There must be a better solution.

But, eventually it is gonna get all gunked up, so again i ask. how do you clean it out???

  • ljop Oct 12, 2010

OK, i've already gotten that advice. Done that. The fabric softener dispenser is attached to the center of the agitator. It does come off and can be soaked in hot water, but that takes a long time. I do it every time after doing laundry. There has got to be an easier way. Do you not have access to a maintenance book of some sort? I bought this at a scratch and dent store and did not get a book with it.

For the outside of the dispenser and around the rim of the drum, use a dry fabric softener sheet.

Try vinegar. Fill the washer with hot water, add 2 cups vinegar and let it soak an hour or more. Run it through a full wash without loading it. This is how you remove soap scum from your washer. This is something you should do as soon as you see any build up and remove it then.

The better solution is while using the fabric softener use 50% of what they have recommended to use..

No salt is being used. What could be a problem?

The meter in the softener head is stuck. Hopefully your manual will at the least diagram where this is so you can take it apart and clean it. It 's also possible that the cord that connects your microprocessor to the valve body (where the meter is) has come loose. If you need more help your manual may give a phone number or you can go to wqa.org and find your local Certified Water Specialist.

The fabric softener holder is not emptying out.

Fabric softener contains lanolin, which is somewhat waxy. Try running a mixture of very hot water and dawn detergent through the dispenser. If that doesn't work after a few tries, you may have to disassemble and clean manually.

Fabric softener compartment does not empty

Try cleaning out the fabric softener holder with some type of citrus cleaner to dissolve the wax build up, or run a hot load without adding any fabric softener to an empty washer. Good luck!

The fabric softner is not going into my washing machine

hi there just try washing the complete soap drawer again in boiling water leave in there for 10minutes to let the hot water work into the gaps and make sure u take all the holders out of the drawer u sometimes have to use a tooth brush to get into the small holes at the bottom of the little funnel what your softener holder goes over also get a small flat blade screwdriver and clean inside that funnel if thats not clean it will stop softener from going away if this doesnt work still then when your softener is supposed to be taken thru the programme make sure the washer opens the valve for the water to go into the fabric softener holder if it doesnt then the solenoid will need replacing as this could be faulty. LET ME KNOWHOW U GET ON PLEASE PETER

Clothes softener does not drain out of the holder

Do your clothes smell funny? Does it take forever for a load to wash? That happened to me and there was a wire loose in the machine somewhere and it would quit mid cycle and never finished a rinse or spin cycle. My fabric softener never drained either!
