I had HP send me the upgrade for the windows 7 compatibility. I installed it and the problem did not go away.

  • stan105 Oct 11, 2010

MY other computer is a laptop (not a PC) and it shows me the HP printer when I open it's Printers and Devices link. But my laptop cannot find it when i instruct it to print - both computers have Windows 7 and I have installed new software that HP sent me so the PC would be compatible with the HP printer. I have a Belkin USB Network adapter attached to my PC and I have a Netgear Wireless router which allows me to use my internet explorer on my laptop.

I think the problem is between the Belkin and the Netgear. I also tried using the Homegroup approach - could not make that work.

It almost sounds like you have 7-basic on the laptop. The lower versions of 7 will not allow you to change the homegroup from the basic setting. If you try to create a new homegroup on it you should see the boxes to enter in the new name etc. If it won't allow you to , then about all you will see is the default homegroup name.

It is also possible you have tried to create a name with invalid characters. Try a simple name such as "Mygroup" and see if that gets it to behave. If thats the case you should be able to change all to a common workgroup name.

So if the laptop doesn't allows changes then you need to change everything to join its group.

The way 7 behaves in networks was not a step forward from older windows versions. It is very picky and sometimes quite frustrating to make it work and play well with others. Usually you will find that all that is stoping it is one little hidden setting or share permission. That will be your next headache.

Can't get hp officejet j4680 all-in-one printer to my acer aspire 7736z-4088 windows 7. It's not connecting

This is because you need the Windows 7 driver for your HP OfficeJet j4680.

A Driver is a small piece of software that allows the Operating System (Win7) to 'communicate' with a device.
(HP OfficeJet j4680)

OfficeJet turned off, and unplugged from power. Disconnect the USB cable FROM the computer.

You DO NOT want the printer plugged into the computer before you have installed the software.
With it turned off, and unplugged from power, it will reset.

AFTER the software is installed, and the printer is plugged back into the computer, then plugged back into power, Windows 7 fully loaded, and THEN turned on, Windows will recognize it.

This is HP Support, and the Software and Driver Downloads page,

On this page you will see the heading >
Select your operating system, then click 'Next':

Click on the blue Down Arrow, to the right of the box with Select in it.

In the drop down list click on the Operating System you are using.

I don't know if you are using Windows 7 32-bit, or Windows 7 64-bit.

[The Drivers you are going to download, may be the same for Windows 32-bit, or 64-bit.
64 Bit is backwards compatible with 32-bit.
However this is Not in all cases.
It's better that you use the drivers for THE particular Windows 7 that you have, and avoid any problems}

I'm going to use Windows 7 32-bit for an example.
Click on Next.

In the list click on the + sign to the left of >
Driver (2)

In the Drivers list I suggest you choose >
HP OfficeJet Full Feature Software and Driver

At the bottom of the file you will see the heading underlined > More info
Click on More info.

Copy what is stated, or write it out on a piece of paper.
You may find you need this info.

In the blue rectangle that has Download, in white, click on it.

A small window will come up.
Opening OJJ4600_Full_13.exe

Click on Save File.

Another small window will come up on the left.
Write down what is in the top of the window.
This is where the file will download to.

Go to where the file has downloaded to (File name > OJJ4600_Full_13.exe), and Double-click on the file name.
Follow the easy instructions of the Installation Wizard.

(Essentially click on Next, Next, and Finish)

Now close all windows, and go back to your desktop screen.

Plug the printer into the computer with the USB cable.
Plug the printer into power.
Windows fully loaded turn the printer on.

I need to know if my laptop will have full functionality on Win 7

HI There,

The easiest way I know for you to check for compatibility issues is the let the Windows 7 install disk do the work for you. If you load the disk, and begin the install process, you will soon be at a window that offers you an automatic compatibilty check and resulting report with instructions.

Why don't you give that a try after visiting the Sony VAIO support site listing the Drivers and Downloads for your machine under the OS you intend to install, in this case W7 64 Bit. If you see a full compliment of drivers for your VAIO that covers all its hardware, your upgrade will likely have a good chance for success. If the site Doesn't seem to have much of anything for W7 then I'd be very hesitant to go for the upgrade unless you really take the time to look up a number of blogs for your machine and see if all the correct drivers can be collected BEFORE beginning.

Best Wishes

I am using A Iogear gpsu21 with a Kodak esp5 printer. I am able to print with no problem from a Acer AS1410 laptop running win 7 32 bit.I am using a Sony Vaio E series laptop with a win 7 64 bit system i...

First, make sure that the Kodak printer driver is properly installed in your Sony Vaio. Make sure that you can print while the Kodak is directly connected to Sony Vaio.

If you can print directly connected to it, try to reinstall the GPSU21 Utility.

Good luck!

Finding the bios battery on a acer 5103WLMI. I removed all the scerws I cud see but the two bits wound not part and I do not wont to forc then help

I am giving you a link to the service manual below. All laptops will disassemble in different ways and there seems to be an infinate number of manuals to explain. Most older Acer laptops do not have the RTC battery in an area easily services by the home user, usually you have to take the plamrest assembly off, Acer laptops usually pivot from the front of the laptop, therefore you have to lift up the edge nearest the screen and pull it up that way and disconnect off the front. Also, there are more than screws that hold these together, acer uses small tabs along the edge and back and sometimes uses hex screws on the bottom of the motherboard, these are used to mount expansion cards. Below is the link.......
