Question about Bissell 6594 PowerForce Bagless Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

I have recently replaced the belt and filters. The belt is in the correct position and the rotating brush moves freely. The motor is very loud. It still vacumns but I'm afraid the motor will burn up.

Does it sound different than it did before you made the repairs to it or does it sound the same. Just so you know some of the upright vacuums on the market today sound like a jet airplane landing in your living room.Canister vacuums are generally quieter than uprights. The Filter Queen is a very quit machine and has been around fpr about 75 years. They are rather costly though.

Both ends of the brush roll should spin freely. You need to replace the brush roll.

Hi Ed,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC17. It's worth checking that the new brush bar and belt are fitted correctly, and rotate freely. The video attached may help in making sure it's correctly aligned.

It's worth checking that no threads, hair or debris are caught within the machine. The brush bar motor itself isn't designed to be serviced, and we would advise against attempting this in case further damage is caused. I'd encourage you to email our experts directly with our contact details - you can reach them at askdysonUS@dyson.com. Someone will be in touch as soon as possible to take you through some diagnostic checks to confirm what's causing the noise.

Best wishes,

When I turn my Dyson ball DC25 vacuum on and engage the brush it makes a screeching noise. I have cleaned the brush and the filters were cleaned a week ago and are in correctly.

Check if the belt still is connected and freely rotating the brush. Dyson vacuum belts are not replaceable. If the belt is going bad, the clutch assembly has to be replaced

How do you change a belt on a dyson DC07

Turn vacuum over so you can see the brush.
Using a standard screwdriver, undo the three fasteners just behind the brush.
Remove the base plate.
Remove the belt.
Remove roller brush.
Place new belt on roller brush and center it in position.
Feed belt through the hole, and return brush to position.
Ensure the brush ends are located in the slots correctly.
Pull the belt over the motor shaft.
Rotate the brush a few times to ensure belt is centered and secure.
Replace the base plate, tighten fasteners, and rotate the brush a few more times to make sure it turns properly and the belt isn't caught.

Canister vac - the motor on the cleaning head cuts out while vacuuming. does it as you draw back the head while cleaning , goes off momentarily and ten when pushed forward engages the motor again. this...

Unplug the vacuum then pull the bottom off the head and clean the brush. Check for debris on the brush and around the ends of the brush. Insure the brush moves freely. Check the motor by turning it by hand to see if it rotates freely. Check the belt to sdee if it is tight. When belts get old the will sometimes stretch and won't work properly. Hope this helps.

My brush roller stopped spinning so I had to take it off and clean out all the hair that had gotten wound around it. I replaces it and now it is make a lound noise, but only when the brush is on. Could it...

Could very well be the belt. When cleaning the brush it is a good idea to add some WD40 at the ends where the plastic pieces are that hold the brush in the vacuum. The brush needs to be able to move freely around the plastic pieces. Add the WD40 and rotate the plastic pieces around the brush until they move freely. Reassemble making sure the belt is put in correctly so the brush moves in the right direction.

I have an Oreck XL2 and the brush is not rotating.

First, check to see if the drive belt for the brush is broken. If it is you need to get it replaced. Also, remove the brush from the cleaner and clean if of all debris then check the small caps at both ends of the brush. If they do not move freely, add a little WD40 and rotate by hand until they move freely. When putting the new belt on or replace the old one, be sure it is put on properly so the brush rotates in the right direction.

The beater brush wont spin because the brush roll is always in the off position. Moving the carpet/hard switch doesn't turn it on.

Hello :
Try this please :
Switch the carpet/bare floor dial back & forth 5 times, ending on carpet. Tilt the handle back as if to vacuum upright & lay the vacuum on its side so it is resting on the side opposite the carpet/bare floor dial. Turn the vacuum on.
Or Maybe the belt is broke. You will have to replace the belt before the roller can spin. You must have run over something in the carpeting like string or whatever to have it break. Happens all the time. Get several replacement belts to keep as spares while you're at it as nothing is worse then having to vacuum and no spare belts.
........................
Try this also please :
Things You'll Need: Phillips head #2 screwdriver Replacement belt for your vacuum model Spray lubricant, such as silicone spray or teflon lube.
1: Unplug the vacuum. Never work on an electrical appliance when it is plugged into an electrical outlet.
2: Turn the vacuum over and locate the plastic or metal plate that covers the rotating brush. Remove this plate.
Note: This plate is typically attached by a small number of Phillips head screws or by levers that turn and lock the plate in place. In either case, removing this plate is a simple task.
3:Identify the vacuum's rotating brush. This brush should have a black rubber belt wrapped around it, and stretched around the metal shaft of an electrical motor mounted somewhere toward the back of the vacuum.
4:Verify that the brush will rotate freely. Examine both ends of the brush to ensure that no threads, string, yarn, etc. have become wrapped around the ends and thus inhibited a free rotation. If there is foreign debris, remove the brush by sliding it up, away from the bottom of the vacuum. Remove the debris
5:Lubricate both ends of the rotating brush with the spray lubricant. Replace the brush into the grooves which hold it in place
Replace the existing belt on the brush assembly, or replace a broken belt with a new vacuum belt.
6:Verify that the brushes now turn freely when back in place and that the motor shaft turns as the brush rotor turns.

Correct position of beater bar on a Dyson DC14?

I had the same problem. I removed the brush from the machine. The brush should move freely when removed. If it doesn't move freely, pull the ends from the brush, both ends come off(one will have a rod fixed to it). I would suggest you clean the ends and the inside of where the ends sit on the brush. I applied a little grease on both end housings(inside end housing) if no grease available try washing up liquid. Put the brush ends back on the brush. I then spun the brush to check that it moved freely. It should move freely, if it does fit it back on the machine and it should be silent. If you cant get it to move freely I suggest a replacement brush. Tip: I used a blunt knife and placed it through the belt to avoid removal of the belt. Good luck. Cheers Jason

Brush won't spin when position of handle changes

The belt for this machine is very specific and only one size fits. It is not uncommon for vac shops to sell the wrong belt because the proper belt is not available from normal supply houses, so they will substitute something they think will work.

Also, assuming you do have the right belt, check the tension arm that drops down on the v-belt when the handle is brought back. This arm has a wheel/bearing with a plastic "tire" or trim that rolls on the belt to tighten it. Sometimes, this tire cracks and falls off and then the remaining bearing won't have the necessary tension to tighten up the belt.
