Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

1 Answer

The fabric softener dispenser on my FAV6800AWQ is not flushing. After a wash cycle, there is still a quarter inch or deeper fluid (water & softener) level. I disassemble and clean the dispenser often but it still doesn't seem to be flushing properly. I can't see any solenoid or tubing assembly near the dispenser (except for the lid lock assy) so I assume the flushing pressure originates via the tub wall. I have been unable to locate an IPB (Illustrated Parts Breakdown) manual to confirm. Thoughts, please? Thank you in advance. Ron Scott Friendswood, Texas

Ron,

From what you describe I feel the next check is to make sure the Fabric Dispenser water solenoid is opening all the way to allow enough water to flow thru the lid channel to fill the reservoir. I say this because you troubleshooting indicates a partially diluted softener in the dispenser reservoir.

You can't get the Service Manual from Servicematers.com anymore so I will point you to a previous post on opening the softener water valve in service mode and let's see if the dispenser valve will fill the reservoir. I don't think that will happen from what you describe......maybe after several minutes in service mode.

You will need to turn on the cold water inlet valve in service mode then turn on the Fabric Dispenser water Valve in Service mode and see after several seconds that the Fabric Dispenser fills and the contents are flushed out to the wash tub.

See this post for your issue http://www.fixya.com/support/t4514661-fabric_softener_dispensor_not_empty

If you want to continue to troubleshoot and DIY the fix I would go to another DIY site that will make it a bit easier to support the fix for your issue. Just Google dh1200s and you should find me on a few other DIY forums...........Rich

Hi, Rich. You are correct. The solenoid valve for the softener dispenser is not opening even though 120VAC is being supplied by the control board to that solenoid. (I used the diagnostic sequence you described in the link you provided to verify ( http://www.fixya.com/support/t4514661-fa... ). I have to buy a putty knife to be able to release the front right and left latches for the washer top to hinge backwards for access to the solenoid valve assembly for removal and replacement. I really appreciate your help. BTW, I FINALLY found a currently available PDF file for the FAV6800A service manual which I was able to download ("save target as") to my computer desktop for more help. You must register with an email addy to access the site and get the manual. Here is the link: http://appliancedigest.com/index.php?/fi... Thank you again and
    Best Regards,
    Ron

Malber WD1000. Why is there always water in the fabric softener dispenser?

Washing machines are designed to flush the softener dispenser to prevent residue from clogging it ahead of the next wash cycle. The dispenser in your machine may have gotten clogged anyway. You may find that the problem comes and goes at the whim of the machines control logic.

I have water in the fabric softener spot and it won't drain out

Water flushes the dispenser during the wash cycle to remove residue. Some water remains after flushing. It's not a problem.

Why doesnt the fabric conditioner dispenser empty after each wash?

The softener dispenser is flushed with water as part of the wash cycle. The residual water prevents softener from clogging the dispenser between was cycles.

Fabric softener premature release

In my case it was simply a matter of cleaning the nozzles that spray the water into the MAIN DETERGENT compartment. Turns our that when the washer was filling up, some nozzles were partially clogged and were directing water to the side where the softener compartment was, causing the fluid level to rise and therefore releasing the softener early. The washer was NOT spraying water in the softener side, what happens is that the dispenser tray is configured in a way that when the fluid reaches a certain max level in the softener/bleach trays, it completely drains. A way to test for this problem would be to completely dry the softener tray and start the wash cycle like you normally would (including detergent), only without adding any softener to the tray and see if after filling there is any water in the softener tray, this would prove that the water is coming from the other side.

I have an Aqualux 1200 washer/dryer. After the wash cycle the fabric conditioner compartment of the tray is full of water and the fabric conditioner appears not to have been flushed into the machine

If the dispensers are in their proper spot it is normal for some water to be left in the fabric softener dispenser. When you add your softener add water to dilute it as some softeners are very thick and don't dissolve well especially in cold water

Water colects in lid sometime during the cycle.Drains onto washed clothes when lifting the lid to remove clothes. Water seems to be combined with fabric softener. Bleach holder also is filled with water....

I had the exact same problem. The problem is that your fabric softener dispenser is clogged up with a lot of dried, sticky fabric softener. The flooding comes from the part of the cycle when water that is to be flushed through the fabric softener dispenser can't drain properly so it spills into the bleach dispenser and onto the top and into the lid gasket as well.

To remove the dispenser for cleaning, you need to open the top of the washer. (First pull it away from the wall.) Carefully pry off the little emblem in the front center of the washer lid. Then remove the screw. Then slide the top forward to you about a 1/2 inch and prop it up carefully.

You then need to remove both hoses that are attached to the bleach and fabric softener dispenser (part of the same unit). Then unsnap the combined unit from the washer top. Then clean all the gunk out by running it under scalding hot water in the laundry tub and swirling the gunk out. Don't attampt to remove the blue round fabric dispenser part from the unit.

Put it all back together and you're good until you clog it up again with too much fabric softener; maybe several years again.

Good luck.

Fabric Soft and Bleach despenser on MAYTAG TL FAV6800 won't drain

I'll see if I can help. Can you just clarify if by won't drain. Does it look like no water flow is flushing the the Bleach and Fabric Softener dispensers?

The Fabric Softener dispenser could be clogged but I suspect the dispenser’s valves are not opening to flush the dispenser’s. If the Fabric Softener dispenser is clogged you can flush with White Vinegar solution and clean exit port with a pipe cleaner. I do not suspect a clog with the Bleach dispenser.

You could go into Service Mode and turn on the water valves for the dispensers to check if water is sent to the dispensers.

If you have no water flow to the Softener dispenser here is the non technical troubleshooting I would take. Go into Service Mode (page 14 of the Service manual) by Pressing Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys (simultaneously) for three seconds or until the console beeps.

Now go to page 16 to Service Manual and enter Board Output Test by pressing the Delicates key. This will lock the lid. Now press the Wrinkle Control Key Pad on the console. The Control Board will send 120VAC to the bleach dispenser water valve. Did you hear the Solenoid hum? If so and you have no water flow diverted to the Softener dispenser the solenoid valve may be stuck closed. If you did not hear the solenoid valve hum the solenoid field coil may be open. Do the same process for the Bleach dispenser water valve with Bulky Items Key Pad.

Final technical troubleshooting as a technical owner of the machine would be to take my DVM and verify 120VAC from the Control Board to the Bleach/Fabric Softener dispenser valves.

See page 36 lower left hand corner is the Bleach/Softener dispenser valve.

Here is the Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

The Part Number for the Dispenser Valve is 25001043 you can order from this site or search the internet for best price.

Good luck…….Rich

Soap Dispence problem on GHW9200LW

In applications with low water pressure, insufficient water
volume is introduced during the fabric softener dispensing
portion of the cycle to flush the dispenser.
RESOLUTION:

Fabric softener compartment problem.

I have this problem as well.. All washing machines manufactured nowadays are energy effficient, which means that they don't use as much water as the older models. This can result in a build-up of bacteria in the top part of the washing machine, which is clogging up the bit where the water comes through to flush the fabric conditioner into the drum. What I have to do every so often, is to take the top off the washing machine and clean out the layer of black slime that has built up, blocking the holes where the water goes into the washing machine. Another contributory factor is that the usual program used is a 40 degree wash, which is not hot enough to completely flush the machine through. Manufacturers recommend running a 90 degree wash once a month with just washing powder in iit, no clothes. Hope this is some help
