Question about Dell Latitude D830 Laptop Computer PC Notebook

1 Answer

D 830 booted once with f12, will not boot again. The time it did boot I ran safe mode, and superantispyware, and it took out a rootkit and a trojan/startup-WV. Any help? HDD maybe?

Perhaps a corrupted master boot record. Do you have the OS install disk? if so try booting from that and running the repair console, this should bring up a dos window.
Type in the word HELP
this will give you a list of the various commands, I think its fixmbr but not positive, that should repair the corrupted boot record.

Nothing happens but the hdd light lights up on and off for a while then stops, and the power light is on. The screen seems to turn on, but its just blank, black. What should I do? The guy says it used to make a lotttt of sound, could it be the hard drive?
I am big on desktops, not so much on the laptops

CHKDSK /r fails to complete to resolve Hard Drive Error 2000-0142 / 2000-0146

This is a regular problem on Win XP computers. They are old so the hard drive is also old. You may need to do a reinstall of your operating system. But you could try running RKill first it is a rootkit killer. This may find the problem in your software, but don't hold your breath, With chkdsk failing it is a reliable indicator of a physical failure on the hard disk. You need to consider that a hard disk is metal plates spinning very fast and while they are designed to take some knocks, over time a laptop takes more knocks than you would expect. The plain truth is, stuff breaks and need s replacing.

Computer will not boot since i download superantispyware.

You can boot your computer to safe mode by tapping the 'F8' key as soon as you power it on. It will go to a black screen with white letters, and in the menu shown you can find Safe Mode. Use the keyboard up or down arrow button to highlight Safe Mode, then hit 'Enter'. This should enable you to boot to a basic desktop. If you get a user screen asking which user you want to sign in as, pick 'Administrator', then click 'OK' if a warning pops up saying you are entering Safe Mode. When you are on the basic desktop, you should be able to open Start button - Settings (on XP) - Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs (XP), or Programs and Features (Vista or 7). From there you can uninstall SuperAntiSpyware so you can boot your computer normally. When you've done that, you need to find out why the program stopped the boot process after install. It could be you don't have sufficient RAM, hard disk space, or the correct version for your Operating System. Try to get your computer booting normally, then you can ask if you need further assistance.

You will have to try booting from your Operating System CD and "Repair Windows." Once you get the computer up and running, you should boot into Safe Mode and install "SUPER AntiSpyware," "AVAST Home Free" and Spyware Blaster (links below). These will have to be downloaded from another computer because you will not have access to internet while in Safe Mode. After installing all three, reboot the computer, booting into Safe Mode once again, and run the three programs.

AVAST Home Free (Full Anti-Virus Protection)

Try pressing F8 during restart.

When the menu ones - choose "Last Known Good"

Failing that - you can try some of the other options. Does it open in Safe Mode?
If so - open it and run some virus scans. If you can get to it, install and run Superantispyware from

Well my problem that everytime i log onto my website erything keeps popping up ok please i need help

If this happens every time you try to access the internet then it sounds to me like you have spyware on your PC. There are several anti spyware programs out on the net that you can grab.

The one that I use and is free by the way is superantispyware. You can get it at superantispyware.com. If you can, download it onto your pc. If not, download the program from another computer, transfer with usb drive, and then install.

Install it, see if it will update during the install, and then I would suggest you run it in safe mode. You can access safe mode by pressing the F8 key while the pc boots up. Once in safe mode, run the program accepting all the defaults. Anything that it finds will be spyware and you can safely let it remove it.

If you are unable to update during the install, that is ok, still run it in safe mode. Once it removes everything it can, restart normally and retry your update. If it is successful then re run the program in safe mode again to make sure everyhing that it can find gets taken off.

Post comment if you have any further questions.

Hope this helps.
