Question about Dell XPS M1330 Notebook

1 Answer

As I open the lid of the laptop to view the screen (logging in etc) the display would flicker and eventually turn off at a certain point, say about 1/3 of the way. if I close the lid back to that point I can see what is on the screen again. I took the LCD apart to check the display cable, it looks fine. I reseated the cable to the board just to be sure. The problem is still unchanged. I noticed there seem to be a small magnet out of place, not sure where it came from and where it goes. Any help for both problems would be appreciated. I don’t think its the screen because when it comes on its perfect, It’s just when I move the lid.

Sounds like it's off track a bit...i really can't say for sure... your best bet would be to just take it to a computer shop and let them deal with it (-_-)

There's a sensor (LCD Lid Close Control Switch) that has gone bad. The sensor controls when the display is shown or not shown based on the position of the lcd lid.

When I open the lid of my laptop it goes black once it reaches a certain point, I am unable to open the lid all the way

Sounds like your display cord has come loose from the connector, to fix it most likely the laptop will have to be taken apart to make sure there is a good connection on that cable.

The screen flickers when opening laptop.

It's one of two things, either it's the backlight inverter or it's the switch which tells the laptop the lid is closed.

The backlight inverter is what powers the lamps in the back of the screen. They aren't expensive, but a computer shop will probably charge you an arm and a leg to replace.

The switch tells it to turn the backlight off when the lids is down to save power.

If it's the switch, you can disconnect it by following this guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthre… and http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthre… according to that if it thinks the lid it will turn the blue touchpad LED orange to indicate the touchpad is locked.

Green flickering pixel at certain point on screen

I read up on this awhile back, and it is probably bad pixels in the display screen. The display screen is controlled by tiny transistors (tft for thin film transistor). Sometimes they can come from the manufacturer bad, they say, but they can also go bad if you apply too much pressure when cleaning the screen (use the moist screen type cleaners- you can buy them at any computer store- Best Buy, Walmart, etc). If the screen gets bumped too hard, they can be damaged also.
There is nothing you can do in this case to fix it, aside from replacing the whole display. It's conceivable that the driver could have a bad feed to the display screen, and in that case would have to be replaced, but you would probably be better off buying a new computer, in that case. Most likely it's just a bad "spot" on the screen, and although annoying, won't hurt anything if you can live with it. Hope this helps!

The screen flickers on and off

no it maybe that the wires have come loose from your screen to the motherboard to solve this take apart your laptop and you will find one or two wires with a ring wer the screw is screwed on just titen them and check if anythink else is loose in the screen.

Flickering may b due 2 ur Display configurations so u may also use some Display software or u may manually correct it.

Properties>Settings>

1. adjust ur screen resolution

Change the refresh frequency for your monitor To change the refresh frequency for your monitor
  1. Open shortcutcold.gifDisplay in Control Panel.
  2. On the Settings tab, click Advanced.
  3. On the Monitor tab, in the Refresh Frequency list, click a new refresh rate.
note.gif Notes
  • To open Display, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
  • The default refresh frequency setting is 100 Hertz, although your monitor may support a higher setting. Check your manufacturer's documentation for information regarding the settings your monitor supports.
  • A higher refresh frequency reduces any flicker on your screen, but choosing a setting that is too high for your monitor can make your display unusable and cause damage to your hardware.
  • Changes to the refresh frequency affect all users that log on to the computer.

Hp Laptop screen flicker

Hi, i noticed that when I unplugged my HP the screen stopped flickering. I then re-plugged in the power, when to the Nvidia control settings, to PowerMizer, and changed 'ac outlet' to Maximum Power Saving.

Not the world's greatest solution, but hey, working laptop now.

Cheers,
Andy.
