I think your macbook is running on power save mode. This will turn your screen black (off) after few minutes of no interaction with the computer or if your PC is on idle.

i just had the same thing happen to me today, twice, while my laptop was plugged into the charger, and in the middle of me using it. In this case, I don't think the sleep mode is an issue, unless it's malfunctioning.

My Macbook Pro goes black from time to time.

Have you original disks?
If so you can run a hardware test. You can find out how to do this through Mac sites.
• Have you run Disk Utility for problems?
• Have you set your sleep setting?
• Have you reinstalled your OS?
Once these are checked and eliminate it should give you an idea if it is a power unit problem.

Macbook Pro Black Screen but Keyboard LED On

If you've already tried turning up the brightness of the screen (the "sun" icon), then you may have a problem with the backlight (possibly burnt out, in which case you'd need a new backlight bulb). See this post for more details:

How do i fix my macbook pro?

Is it plugged in? Is the battery functioning? Try holding down the keys command/option/p/r while turning the power on to your mac. Let it reset a couple of times. You will know it is resseting by hearing the apple chimb several times.

Have a macbook pro and it has locked up, black screen now and isn't responding to mouse or keyboard

This has also happened to my Macbook Pro - nothing would work, so i basically pressed the power button until it closed down and waited a few minutes and turned it back on. The problem ( touch wood) did not come back again yet. Good luck!

this sounds like a temp folder has your downloads and some software that is set to open at start up is keeping your files.
i suggest making a account or looking thorough your previous downloaded files

Macbook pro screen boots to black. tried rebooting, screen comes on then goes black again. This happened after I unplugged it from a dell projector. Any suggestions???

Try pulling the battery out then holding the power button for 10 seconds. Put the battery back in.

If not search macbook pro recall apple has extended the warranty on some models due to a bad graphics card.

Macbook screen goes black after I log in.

Since the screen does turn on at the login page, I would say that it doesn't seem as though anything is physically wrong with your computer. It sounds to me like it's a software issue. Either get someone to try and reinstall your video drivers or to back-up your documents, files, etc., format the hard drive, and reinstall a fresh copy of Mac OS.
