SOURCE: One speaker not working
I called Altec Lansing Technical Support:
535 Route 6 & 209
Milford, Pennsylvania 18337-0277
They stated that the case is not made to be opened (Great Design...NOT!) They suggested I remove the sub-woofer cable and clean the pins with alcohol. Of course, you should remove the AC plug first.
One other suggestion I would make as a last resort, for this and other problems. With the unit unplugged, pull off the Volume Control Knob, and the sfx knobs. Spray electrical contact cleaner in the openings, and hope it reaches the dirty areas.
Make sure all the cleaner has evaporated before reconnecting the unit.

The solution is actually quite simple, due to a design flaw. Altec lansing designed a rather cheap mini din plug-in which can either be replaced or repaired depending on your skill and patience level. Your ground contact is fine BUT the positive contact is not making connection due to the fact that the plastic housing has broken away and pulled the contact with it. This can be super glued back into place or just replaced with a new mono minidin plug-in.
