Thinkpad R31 BIOS not working

The problem I have is after running 1fud53us.exe from the page you referred. I did follow the on screen instruction and everything looked normal during the process.

Before I restarted, upgrade process showed successful 3.11 upgrade message.

I have an old IBM THINKPAD R31 every time i turn it on it says to press F1 for ibm bios setup utility and F12 for ibm boot devices list so i pres one of the 2 and it does nothing it just stays the same...

This is caused by the small battery inside that keeps the time and date for the computer. If it is dead, you get the message you refer to. Sometimes they are easy to change, sometimes it is quite a hassle. If you go to setup, you can change the time and date for that session, but the next time it will be off again.

So there are a few things you need to know, you will need a converter box from the Laptop to TV, but you would not need one for connecting your laptop to a monitor. These can be purchased online (ebay) or in stores.

Maintenance manuals for both systems are on www.lenovo.com/support, under the publications section. But without looking at it, I would say no, the cables will not work.

DVD

Hi,
I don't mean to disagree with my associate, but DVD players for R series (or T, A, etc) can be found for less than 20.00 US (Ebay is a good example)
For that matter, we've got at least a dozen at our shop which we sell for 25.00
Installation is very simple as well, just pop the old drive out, put the new drive in.
Good luck
