Question about Sony RDR-VX530 DVD Recorder/VCR

2 Answers

I am getting the message "You cannot record. Copy protected movie" when I attempt to record the baseball playoffs on TBS. I had this problem in the past with my Sony RDR-VX530, but only intermittingly. I was able to record most all the games including two from last year on my Uverse box that previously had the message but it went away. How can I overcome this. These recordings are for my own private use. Thank you. Joe Pellicone jpellnets@netscape.net

The problem is intermittant. Two games I had on my U Verse DVR I was not able to record because of the message. Over the weekend I was able to record them. The message was not there. This makes no sense. There has to be a solution, or I must forever keep games with the message on my U Verse.

You can't. The DRM flag is in the transmission and you can't remove it. It was raised because one of the teams owners requested it.
The fact that you are recording it for your personal use has no importance. If you would remove it by some unknown means (which btw is impossible on your unit) you would become a pirate and subject for punishment according to the law.
If you still want to record it then your only option is to use an PCI tuner card and a Linux OS with MythTV installed in it.

There is not much you can do.With all the digital capabilities, especially the digital transmissions which started this year, they are better able to protect their copyrighted material by transmitting a signal which interferes with recordings, not much, just enough to make it bothersome.I have copyrighted a couple of things, nothing major like TV transmissions, but vastly researched the laws and applications and violations and as I stated, with the new digital transmissions which started in summer,it's a whole new ball game,so to speak. Here is a link to the Copyright Office if you would like to research some stuff, but i would not recommend calling them asking questions about your attempting to record material so as not to draw any red flags.Welcome to Digital TV,pros and cons included,no extra fee...yet.Sorry,wish I had better news.Greg

Dvd says cannot record copy protected movie how to fix ?

Depends what you are trying to record? Some TV stations have protection built in so you cannot record. If you are trying to copy a video from VHS to DVD and it's a commercial movie etc then it won't.
You can get a "box" that will get rid of copy protection signals, but only from outside the unit sources. Internal dub to dub protected sources cannot be copied.

It is against the law to copy protected Shows/Films etc.
The copyright protected notice is to ensure the actors and production staff get wages.

Is it possible the VHS you're trying to copy is copy-protected? Apparently, the MC6 displays "waiting for signal" when you're attempting to copy a copy-protected (commercial) video. I had success converting my own homemade VHS tapes. I just bought my MC6, and thought I'd pass along some tips I got from others: You know you're recording when a red ring around the large Record button lights up and it actually says "recording" on screen, and adjust HQ to SP to get 2-plus hours of video on the DVD.

Dvd recorder has copy protected message

Hi,

the tapes that you can,t copy are protected, manufacturers used to put a high pitched frequency on the tapes themselves, which would in theory cause a scrambled frequency. the only suggestion i have for you, is to play the tape onto a television, and use a camcorder to record the image from tv to camcorder, then camcorder to pc, and use some good editing software to create the dvd.
alternatively, you could try using a second dvd player, and use your recorder as the second device.
The final but more expensive option, is to look for a way to input the recorder, direct to PC. which you would use picture out, to graphics card input, and the red and white ( Audio ) for the stereo Sound output. does your player or tv have An spdif connection or similar, you may be able to output to camera, rather than to dvd.
Where theres a will, theres a way, but these are a few options.

****Please note:- this information is supplied only as you have the original Movies***

Bear in mind, it is illegal to copy protected content. However as you own the originals, this information is provided to enable you, to backup your Purchased Content.

Thankyou for using fixya.

Screen says cant record copy protected movie

Is this a new problem or has it always been like this? The unit will throw that error message if there's a copy protection flag on the broadcast source.

To make matters worse, there are three flags a broadcaster can set. Copy Always, Copy Once, and Copy Never.

Copy Always and Copy Never are pretty self-explanatory but the Copy Once flag with this unit only works with certain media, namely DVD-RAM and DVD-RW in VR mode with CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable Media.

Copy Always flag should work with all media. I don't know of any easy way to figure out which broadcasts have which flag but try changing your media and recording mode first.

P.S. You may also want to reset to factory default settings by pressing FF and RW together on the player. Also make sure you're running the latest firmware.

Good Luck!

Recording from DVR.

There is a firmware update posted on the Sony support web site. It takes care of the copy protect error. However, i have encountered an error where the recorder doesn't identify the input signal. It posts the message "waiting for input signal." I have no solution for this one yet.
