Hi,
There is another effective alternate is to take out memory card from camera and plug it in memory card reader that will be connected with computer in USB port, go to My Computer and look for newly added icon that is memory card storage, click it and copy picture folder somewhere in computer.
Memory Card Readers are widely available in Stores under $15, $20, click Amazon.com to view few memory card reader to have better idea.
No camera software or any other driver is required for memory card reader setup as Windows has inbuilt drivers to recognize it to work properly.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

I just bought a canon powershot A40 off a person, And I dont have the CD to install into the computer .. What do I do ?

You can download Canon software from
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_a_series/powershot_a40#DriversAndSoftware

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Canon ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

+driver for canon powershot a 40 on vista

I had same problem. Called Canon and found out A40 is not compatible with Vista so there is no driver. But you can download pics to your Vista by purchasing USB Memory Card Reader/Writer you can find at Walmart for about $12.00. You put your Flash card in device and has USB that plugs in computer for downloading pics.

Ouch. The ONLY "official" solution I could find was this: "If you have lost youroriginal Solution Disk, you can purchase a replacement by calling Canon Photo/Video Spare Parts."

OTOH, I did find this file:
http://menterprise.net/guest/apps/zoombrowser/zoombrsr22.exe

== Be careful downloading files. Scan it with virus-scan before opening and installing. ==

BTW, updaters for some versions of the Zoom Browser can be found at: usa.canon.com.
