Machine error 41

Hi,

This is a common issue on Brother printers. It means there is a problem with the print head.

You can download the installation driver and software from manufacturer's site by clicking this link

On the page which opens:

• Select the operating system of your computer (Windows Xp/ Vista..) from the drop-down list
• Select the Language (English) and click the Search button
• Download and install the drivers and software from the next page which opens.

Process :

• first you open the link
• then type MFC 5840 CN in search list.
• after searching the particular driver, select it for open the download page
• download this driver easily

if you have an error 41 the machine wont print any more due to a short circuit in the print head.

plz check error message.

anyway, if you have received error 41 you need a new printhead or better (because its cheaper) a new mfc.

You need a new print head.

You could try cleaning the one on there, but all brothers similar to yours are plagued by this problem.

To clean it try:
SWITCH MACHINE ON WHILST HOLDING DOWN MENU/SET KEY, THIS PUTS MACHINE INTO FACTORY SETTINGS MODE.
(MAINTENANCE WILL SHOW ON LCD)
ENTER CODE:84 & WAIT WHILE MACHINE PERFORMS A FORCED CLEANING CYCLE.
(cLEANING WILL SHOW ON DISPLAY)
NOW ENTER CODE:09 & MACHINE WILL PRINT OUT ITS PRINT QUALITY CHECK SHEET.
(IGNORE INSTRUCTIONS PRINTED ON CHECK SHEET)
CHECK QUALITY & REPEAT BY USING CODE:84 IF NEEDED.
(YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES BUT YOU SHOULD SEE A STEADY IMPROVEMENT WITH EACH CLEANING CYCLE)
WHEN FINISHED AND QUALITY IS GOOD, ENTER CODE:99 TO RETURN TO STANDARD MODE.
PRESS MENU/SET 4, THEN MONO FAX START TO PRINT OUT
PRINT QUALITY CHECK SHEET & FOLLOW ON SCREEN INSTRUCTIONS.

did you had a paperjam the days before?

The encoder strip which gives the print head the position is out of position. It has to be fixed into the ph.

The printhead is defective. Call brother hotline. Because this is a very common error (due to malconstruction on the mfc 3820 ) they might replace it for free. And when asked: OF COURSE YOU HAD ALWAYS RUN THE UNIT BY ORIGINAL INK CARTRIDGES!!!! :-) (take the ink carts out before sending or giving it to a service dealer!)
