Pioneer VSX-456 headphone jack problem

No the headphone jack doesn't disable the speakers. There are two switches in the lower middle of the receiver that are labeled speaker A and B. Pushing one of these should disconnect the speakers from the receiver.

My lobtops volume on

I'm not sure I understand your statement? To increase volume, click on the Sound/Audio Icon in the Tray Notification Area, adjust or right click, select Playback devices, select speakers. If Headphones are plug in , unplug. If Muted, un-mute. You didn't post the Acer Model or OS you are using, so I can post the Audio driver?

Headphones work, on board speakers do not

It's muted. Left click on the speaker symbol. There should be a icon or box to click on to un-mute it.

I used the FN + Mute button on my panasonic cf-w5 toughbook and now I get no sound when un-muting. This is the second one recently that has done this. Headphone jack will not work either. Is there another...

Double-click the "volume control" icon, to open the "sound mixer" control. Move all the sliders to "maximum", and remove any "mute" check-boxes.

Do you have a "FN + something" key to increase the volume?

Why speaker is not working ?

first off, make sure everythings plugged in right
speakers plugged into audio out or headphone out on back of computer, power is on, and both speakers are plugged in, then check the muting, if its muted un mute...
if its not muted
try muting then unmuting, i sometimes have that problem...
if all else fails, try turning off your computer then waiting 5 mins, and turning it on, if sound works, then great, if not try a set of headphones you are positive work, plug them into each plug theyll fit in on the front and back, or sides of your computer, if not, chances are you have a broken soundcard...
or a software conflict, did you install anything lately, try uninstalling...

Sound card

Try headphones.
Try different types of music (CD, mp3, video, DVD) - all same?
Is the Control Panel sound icon un-crossed (not muted). Did you press the Mute function key by mistake?

Update driver, goto select OS and choose Audio then VIA HD Audio Codec 1708b. If this does not work, click mute and un-mute ontaskbar when there is no sound. I have had the same problem (sometimes) when using certain headphones, and pausing video, then playing video, sometimes the headphones have no sound, but if I unplugged headphones, the speakers work.I plug headphones back in, no sound. So i press the mute button twice.
