Question about Singer 7422

1 Answer

My machine is making a knocking sound and then the thread bunches on the bottom. It is threaded correctly. Bobbin is in correctly. No jams in the bobbin area. We did take the bobbin case out their seemed to be a piece of thread in the hole in the middle when we pulled it out it looked like a shoe lacing.

You may have thought that your machine was threaded right but it cannot have been. It has to have a problem with your thread or your needle. I never in 50+ years of sewing heard of the thread looking like shoe lacing. Hopefully you didn't mess up the timing because you will have to have it professionally repaired, not a do it yourselfer. Try totally rethreading, put in a 80 or size 14 needle and hope that it works ok. Also, check your manual clean and oil it. I have my fingers crossed for you that maybe that is all you need to do.

Why does the top thread sometimes picks up the hook and then picks up bobbin but bobbin then crosses over and makes a mess? Wont work

Basic Tips for All
  1. Always turn the handwheel TOWARDS you (counter clockwise) as turning it in the opposite direction (away from you, clockwise) may knock the timing out requiring repair from a service center.
  2. Always be sure your presser foot is in the DOWN position before sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will cause your thread to tangle and your bobbin to jam.
  3. Change needles regularly (after 16 hours of use) as dull/weak needles can cause damage to your machine and fabric. Only use SINGER needles on your SINGER sewing machine.
  4. Always be sure you are using the correct bobbin for your machine. Class 66, Class 15 and Class 15J bobbins look very similar. However, using the incorrect bobbin class in your machine can cause damage.

My needle won't grab the bobbin thread but if I put some fabric in and start to sew the bobbin thread comes through. However, the bottom thread is all bunched up and causes the machine to jam.

the looping on the underside sounds like a needle thread tension problem. 1st off check top (needle) threading then turn machine by hand to pick up bobbin thread

I have a Bernina Activa 130. I tried to sew over some leather, started fine, then the needle got stuck and I stopped right away. Now, the bottom threads keeps bunching. I have re-threaded the machine, new...

You need a fatter needle. The skinny needle will not open the leather enough for a smooth flow of thread and that's why the bobbin is bunching up when the top thread is sticking. Make it easier on your machine by using an appropriate size needle while sewing leather.

Help trouble-shoot jammed machine

Try these suggestions

1. Change the needle--use a needle that's for the fabric being sewed

2. Rethread the machine--top --make sure to use every thread guide

3. try a different bobbin--make sure bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case, & make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way in the bobbin case

4. make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever

5. Clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or threads

6. Also could be a timing problem, and the machine would need to be checked.

I have a Singer Touch and sew 600e, the bobbin thread is all bunched up and machine jams up with thread. How can I fix this? Is there a simple setting that I am missing.

try changing the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly in the bobbin case
make sure the top thread is not coming off the thread take up lever
make sure the bobbin is wound correctly
if these suggestions don't work, I suggest that you take the machine
to a sewing machine shop to have it checked

Bottom thread bunches

try changing the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or thread
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case
if none of these suggestions help then it's possible that the machine is out of time & needs to be serviced

Bobbin thread bunching, fabric not advancing

Check your manual to find out how make sure that the feed dogs are up. Those are the "teeth" on the bottom that move the fabric along. If you're not sure or can't find the manual then posting the question with machine's model number might help.

If the fabric won't advance because the bobbin thread is jamming: Check to be sure that your tension is set correctly and that your machine is threaded correctly - even experienced sewers can occasionally miss a spot like forgetting the change the loop after rewinding a bobbin. Also make sure the the thread in your bobbin is the same brand and type as the spool that is threaded. An imbalance in the types of threads can throw off the tension.
