Start Menu, icons disappears except wallpaper & my DVD drive didn't work.

Hi...

Firstly, start menu, icons all disappears on my desktop except wallpaper.
So, i just use "Task Manager".
My computer was infected by Trojan Horse and aldy removed by AVG antivirus.
After scanning, it said, "For your window protection, you need to insert WIndow XP professional Disc 2."
But, i can't play CDs or DVD or VCD in my drive.
I don't know wat had happened to my DVD R/RW drive???
When i checked in "My Computer", it shows CD Drive E:, and when i clicked the drive, it shows as if CD is empty. My disc is not empty.
Pls help me to surpass this problem....

Trojan Horse virus still exist in partition files and you should format entire HDD with Disk-Manager-2000 or some thing like that. After format, reinstall Win XP.
I been faced such problem few months back and that was effected solution.

My drive for cd/dvd player and burner is not on my computer anymore. it has just disappeared. When I look at my computer page removable disk e is not even there anymore!

  • Hi, I know you try a couple of things that may be similar, but this is a standard of mine. “To install, and Update Hardware, click to open "Computer" from the “Desktop”, or the [Start Menu], check to see if there is a DVD-RW Drive (D :), for external different (E or F:).
    I. Look in the “Device with Removable Storage area,” see if the device is present, if so? Do the following: to “setup” the ('player') for “Installation.”
II. Right click on (DVD) “Media Player” select (“Install”) follow all instructions thereafter.
III. If the area is (Blank?), “go to,” and 'click' on the "Start button" click all “Programs” scroll for a Media Disk Player”, open, and do the (“same as above”) for the installation. *Note: “Do the same for “Setup” (above) “Install.”
If the problem still exist, than the best thing to do at this point is perform a "System Restore." Try to remember the exact "Date before the problem occur, or once you start the System Restore, ("pick a date going back more than 5 days"), check the dates and see if any of the dates seem familiar. Pick the closest date prior to the "Sound going out!" Type in the "Search Window" from the start menu: system restore; scroll to find, and open. Follow all the instructions carefully for the process to be successful. "Hope it works out for you; if so rating the help will let me know, thanks."

All of the icons from the screen disappeared!

try to reboot your computer into safe mode.

To use a Safe Boot option, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
  2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
  3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
Then click start
click run
type in msconfig
uncheck everything under the startup tab except your antivirus
and reboot

Quick Menu

Hi. If the quickmenu has 'New messeges', 'Bluetooth', 'Calendar' etc on it then I think I know what your'e talking about.
Under the quickmenu, there should be some kind of animated arrows on either side. If you touch them the menu should disappear.
If you can't see the arrows then just touch the empty space under the quick menu and the arrows should appear there.
Hope it works
