Have you considered NOT connecting your camera to your computer?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Having gone over five months without a response, I assume my suggestion to use a card reader solved the problem.

You don't need any special software.

You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or, despite what I said first, you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

How can I connect my Sony handycam DCR-DVD710 to my MacBook computer to download movie footage? thanks

We used a Firewire to connect to the 1394 ports between the camera and computer, it is thicker than the usual wire that connects to the USB ports to download still images. You'll need software like File Maker to download the video. Good luck!

I have a cannon EOS 400D and i am trying to download images on to my laptop. i have the the camera plug in to the usb socket and the camera is on play back and turned on

Hey ikpoole,
What you need to do to transfer your images to your computer is first make sure you have installed the software that came with the camera on your computer. Make sure the camera is off and connect your camera to the computer using the USB cord that came with the camera. Turn the camera on and your computer should detect the camera and ask you what program you want to use to download your images, and select the EOS Utility. Your images should now download to your computer. Another way to download your images would be to use a card reader that supports your type of memory card and plugs directly into a USB port. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Trouble downloading images

Check under the Set Up Menu and go to USB.  Ensure it is set to Mass Storage before you connect the camera to the computer.

Lost Cd

Actually, if you're using XP you should not need the disc at all to shoot & download images. If you're looking for software so you can crop & that sort of thing, I recommend googles Picasa program, its free. To download images without the disc simply connect the camera like you have in the past and XP will find the device & walk you thru downloading images, usually. If not, click on "my computer" and you should find your camera/device listed there. Personally, I use a card reader and take my memory card out and download the images using the reader.

Problems when connecting Canon Powershot A70 - Cannot find program to upload pix

The popup would be the windows wizard wanting to assist with downloading image files. There's 2 popups one is the wizard and you'll click on transfer images & it walks you step by step to download the images. The other one is just a one click option & you can copy the images files to your computer. But since those options don't seem to work for you - one solution would be to click on "my computer" and you'll either find your camera or memory card listed along side your computers C drive. If you're downloading images from the camera - it needs to be hooked up via the cable + the camera probably needs to be turned on. Some cameras also have a setting or button to turn in order to download the images.

How do I view and/or download the pictures taken with my digital camera my computer?

Once you have properly connected your camera to your computer (see FAQ #2 listed above), your computer will see your camera (connected and powered on) as a disk drive - most likely listed as "removable disk." Now that you know where to look to find the images, they can be viewed and/or downloaded in a variety of programs. Please visit our Learning Studio for specific step-by-step instructions (complete with examples and visuals) for further assistance in viewing/downloading images.
