Question about Sharp R-303CW Convection / Microwave Oven

6 Answers

I have 2 Sharp R898M Convection /Microwaves , the R895 has a blank but backlit display. The R898M has a display which is very dim, although now just usable. I suspect a stock fault on the display electronics, does anyone have any idea where i should look ?

I have taken out both DISPLAY boards & checked all connectors & soldered all pads on the boards (big job) I SUSPECT SOME COMPONENT HAS GONE HIGH RESISTANCE . tHIS MUST BE A STOCK FAULT ON THESE DISPLAYS, Someone must be able to pinpoint that COMPONENT, PLEASE.

If the display is dim or blank you need to replace the display board. I was looking for one and they are no longer made.

Are you looking for a new display?

Open up the display and push on the end of the ribbon cable where it connects to the edge of the display driver PC board, if it lights up then your ribbon cable's connection pads are failing. REplace the ribbon cable. If it DOES NOT light up then you will need to replace the entire display assembly (driver board and LCD)

Don't Worry.

its a common problem with the sharp microwaves. the control pcb needs to be replaced. it should come with the clock attached to it.

This is a control unit problem which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid. No need to buy a new board.

We have details and critical safety and disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

On The display module, contact has gone loose. normally, opening up unit and performing service would fix this. if not technical, then its time for service..

I would replace the display. Partselect . com or daysappliance or repairclinic will have it as well as diagrams and instructions to replace it if needed.

It is the control PCB (printed circuit board) assembly, and it contains the VFD.

The VFD (vacuum fluorescent display as opposed to LCD, liquid crystal display) is not available as a separate part.

You can sometimes brighten them up a little if you have some smoky dust that's gathered due to static electricity. (That's common)

    Disconnect the keypad strip.
Next, remove the board from the control panel frame.
Next use a soft cloth (not a paper towel) with a non-ammonia cleaner and wipe off the front of the glass VFD and the rear of the display window in the plastic frame.

You can test the power signal to the display panel with a voltmeter. The main circuit powers the display panel. It can get faulty capacitors that control the electrical current across electronics. These capacitors can wear out through use and time. The display panel itself is also very well known to wear out and burn out through time as welll.

Is my Miele M6262 Microwave oven a convection oven?? Sounds silly but was told it was when we bought it but it doesn't seem to be?!?! Thank you

From what i can tell, it utilizes microwaves and is indeed not a convection oven. Although it does have some extra features such as a 'grill' setting, i think that is just using microwaves at a lower (or higher) power.

The control panel of my sharp grill 2 convection microwave oven is very dim

Hi,
Dimmed light might be caused by a slight contact between the panel's connector and the mainboard. Or, there is a dimmer option (feature) in the menu. Depends on model. Some of Panasonic microwave ovens are equipped with such a feature.

On most recent Sharp microwaves, the fuse only interrupts main power, so if the fuse is blown, it will be totally dead.

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes then try it.

Then chances are you have a failed microwave display. Unless this is an over the range, touch screen, or convection type, it's probably not worth repair, but you can get more information on such repairs here.

Sharp microwave stopped working

Is it totally dead? No display? Or just does not cook? If it made an unusual noise before it 'died' something probably shorted out.... You need an ohm meter to troubleshoot. If the fuse is open, switches and HV circuit need to be checked before replacing fuse. Sometimes on the convection Microwaves (not just Sharp) the fuse will 'rust' and open rather than blow. Or the fuse holder can over heat and fail.
