Hello, sorry to hear about your problem.
Have you tried reseating the water tank. Breville are aware of this problem. After some research and given that you have already cleaned the coffee maker, try reseating the water tank. Give it a good wiggle and make sure it is flush against the unit by pressing it in. I don't have your specific model number so I don't know where the microswitch is situated but essentially if there is one it needs to be made by the tank.
Short of this Breville should be very understanding about the defect as it is very very common and after a year I think its not a bad prospect to ring them, complain and express your disappointment. Quote statutory rights at them too, as it is not unreasonable for one to expect a coffee maker to last in excess of 2 years, especially given the reputation of Breville!
Just because it is out of warranty doesn't mean they are unaccountable!
Hope this helps and good luck.
Jim

Hi,

It may need to be cleaned, if the brewing holes are clogged it'll signal coffee maker to shut off. Refer to owner manual for cleaning. check first the resistor of the machine value between 40 and 50 Ohm you find also a temperature fuse about 141 gr you can measure this with Ohm meter this should give a value off 0.5 or 1 Ohm, of not replace temp fuse normally it should work after this repair. Remove water tank and re-seat it, making sure its in securely then turn-off and unplug the Keurig for 30 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on

Please accept the solution if it's helpful. Do get back to us for any further query.

Regardless of setting, I have not been able to get any more than 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup of coffee. The water barely comes out and now the descale message is on the screen. I need instructions for...

Although this is in "Problem with Vacuums," I found it while searching for a solution to my steam cleaner vacuum problem. You must be talking about a Keurig or Breville-Keurig coffee maker. Tap water, especially chemically softened tap water, contains minerals that require periodic descaling, as often as every two months if you make only a couple of cups a day.

Filling the tank with white vinegar and making multiple large mugs without a Keurig coffee cup in the holder will remove most scale. There are products that claim to do better than white vinegar if this does not work. Amazon sells a couple of brands in its Keurig section.

It will take several tank fulls of clean water to rid the machine of the vinegar or commercial cleaning solution. Use distilled water for this. Then switch to good bottled water without a heavy mineral load.

Can I put ground coffee directly into the brewer basket to make a cup of coffee? I don't have a coffee pod

Nope, don't put the ground coffee directly into it. Instead try using a Napkin or Paper towel.
A piece of cloth may also be used, but the paper towel is preferable.

Hope it works out!

I have a coffee maker that makes 36 cups of coffee. How many cups of ground coffee should I use to brew 36 cups?

I would ordinarily use half the amount of scoops of coffee as the amount of cups the coffee maker makes. A scoop being a Tablespoon of ground coffee. Less if you want it weak and one or two more if you want it very strong.

Does not make a 10 oz cup of coffe even though it is set

the problem with the 1 serving coffee brewers is that with the little amount, the machine doesnt have time to account for evaporation. And depending on the air temp, and the humidity, this will change.

When I put a k-cup in and it brews the coffee, it leaves coffe grounds all over the top of the k-cup and in the holder area and I get some in my coffee, it looks like the top needle is making too big of...

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.
I would follow the cleaning list below, I an addition you may have a bad batch of k-cups
plus just run some hot water, with out a kcup in the holder.

  1. Remove the K-Cup assembly
To remove the assembly from the brewer, open the cover by lifting the handle. Grasp the top of the K-Cup Holder with one hand while pushing up on the bottom of the assembly from underneath with the other until it releases. The K-Cup Holder is dishwasher safe.
  2. Clean the Funnel
The Funnel can be removed from the K-Cup Holder by pulling on it until it snaps off. The Funnel is dishwasher safe. To replace it just snap it back onto the K-Cup Holder.
  3. Clean the exit needle
The exit needle is located on the inside bottom of the K-Cup Holder. If coffee grounds or cocoa mix gets clogged in the exit needle, it can be cleaned using a paper clip or similar tool. Remove the Funnel from the K-Cup Holder, insert the paper clip into the tube and move it around to loosen the clog and remove any debris. Please note, you cannot poke all the way through the needle as the opening of the needle is located on the side and not the top.
  4. Install the K-Cup assembly into the brewer
After cleaning, align the K-Cup Holder tabs with the opening placing the two front tabs on the bottom and the single tab on top and snap it into place by pushing down on the top rim.

I know this is probably a stupid question, but I don't know how to open the dirt box to clean it. I put the lever on open, but then I don't know which way to pull.

The dirt cup sits in a small recess on the shelf that lifts it up and down. Dust gets in there and makes the cup stick to the shelf. With the lever in the open position, hold the shelf down with one fingernail and lift the cup up. once seperated, cup should pull straight out.
