This is a long shot but try it. It can only help. It will not hurt at all. It could be spyware messing with your settings. Stick with me on this and I will keep hwlping until we figure it out.

Turn the system restore off. System restore keeps everything in restore. Meaning......... If you have spyware or a virus, it will stay in your system. Run Spybot S&D (This program is free and is better than using msconfig as long as you go through the settings and change everything to the highest settings.) Then do the same with Adaware 2008 (sounds stupid to use 2 things for spyware, but one catches what the other one does not.). I have links on my website (tandnfamilyelectronics-online.com). These links go directly to the download so you will not get the run around. You would do good to try a program called Window Washer (Free Window Washer Download). This is a great program that completely cleans anything in your computer that you do not need. It will not clean out anything that you have to have. I have used this for years to clean out my customers computers and have cleaned as much as 3 gigs of trash out. If you contact me I will give you some tools that I have for free that will do a great job on your computer. I have them ready to download and I will give you the link. (dean@tandnfamilyelectronics-online.com)

Send me the complete specs of your system and I can help you more. I hope that this helps you. There is no reason the really buy a program for spyware when there are free things to use that work great. Free AVG is a great Antivirus and yes it is also free. It will check your e-mail coming and going. It will also let your friends now that the E-mail does not have a virus. It also has a spyware program that is free. This day and time with all of the spyware out on the net you can never have too many programs for spyware. I would not run all of them at the same time though. Make sure that you do not use your computer during any scan. Defrag is also something to do after you do everything else. Some people will tell you that should not reload your computer. If nothing seems to work then sometimes that is the only good way to get it repaired right. Most of the programs that come pre-installed on a store bought computer is useless and most are even trail software that causes problems when they expire. Let me know if this helps at all. Please rate me if it helps.

Mouse or touchpad not working

Hi,

add an external mouse/keyboard to fix the onboard fault.
check the device manager for any yellow exclamation marks. as there may be a faulty or corrupt. keyboard/mouse touchpad driver.
other option, is to add remove touchpad drivers, and re-install.
finally, you could check if the settings are correct in the bios.

Thankyou For Using Fixya.

Sticky mouse

Try to uninstall your TP driver from the device manager and restart your system. Let the OS detect it and test. If same problem persist using the XP generic driver, then your problem is the touchpad itself. you need to bring it to a shop who can do te repair.

Hope this helps.
If it does please vote. Thanks!

It may be set to be over-sensitive to touch - Open Mouse settings in your control panel and look for touchpad sensitivity settings.

If that doesnt help you probably have a sticky mouse button and the touchpad will need to be replaced.

What brand and model laptop do you have?? Some are prone to sticky buttons.

"sticky" mouse on compaq laptop

Unless your left mouse button has been severely damaged, it is unlikely that a loose button is the cause of your problem. More likely, it is your touchpad. Chances are your touchpad is set to click when tapped. Oversensitive touchpads can click randomly when you're dragging your finger across the touchpad.

To test this, position your cursor over a link (or other button) but don't press the left mouse button. Instead, lightly tap the touchpad itself. If the link or button is clicked, go to your Control Panel and adjust the Mouse options so your touchpad no longer clicks when tapped. It's usually a setting titled "tap to click" or something along those lines.

Touchpad key 'sticky'

Hi Talderman, Are you referring to the ?mouse? button just below the touchpad? If yes, that is a common problem and could be the result of foreign material getting in-between the contacts or more likely mechanical wear from use. You can try cleaning the contacts but you will need to disassemble the laptop to get to the touchpad assembly which is part of the palmrest. It?s not a quick or risk free job and typically is beyond the abilities of most home users since it involves removing the LCD panel. Unless you have the skills, tools and have the ability to risk the machine I would suggest taking it to the local Dell authorized shop and having the touchpad replaced. If you decide you want to try let us know and I?ll post instructions on how to take it apart. By the way Ebay has the part for about $20?.. Good luck and please don?t forget to rate the post.
