Question about Acer Aspire 5520-5908 Notebook

1 Answer

When I power on my Acer Aspire 5315 (on 32bit Vista OS) the LCD screen stays black and it doesn't show any sign of booting-up. The only thing that I see is the green LED light which shows that the power is on and the dvd drive runs for some seconds ( /- 30sec) and the stops. Help me get over this problem :( Thank you in advance...

Plug the laptop into a monitor, most new LCD TV's will have a PC connection on the back, you will need a VGA or DVI cable for this, depends what your laptop has. If you see the OS boot up fine then the problem is with your laptop display, likely the backlight or some component of the display is toast. If you don't see anything on the second display then you may have other issues, video card/motherboard, although you would think that would be caught at POST and give you some beeps to indicate failure. Try the first option then post back with results.

I'm not sure what it is you are trying to say, but if I'm not mistaken, you are saying that your laptop is shutting down due to overheating. This should be easy to fix, first check to see if the fan actually spins up, even though the fan is on the motherboard it is usually a 2wire fan that is replaceable.
If the fan does spin up, you could have a dust/air flow issue, if you have the tools and know how, clean the unit out if that doesn't work, you may want to try reapplying thermal paste and re seating the heat-sinks, this could also be an issue with bad solder points on the GPU, but best to test the obvious before you go and put your motherboard into the oven. :)
    good luck

My computer will not boot up Acer 5050 all the lights com on but it never boots the screen stays black. it will not turn off unless you remove the battery.

If you have a VGA cable and a monitor, attempt to plug this into a monitor to verify that the laptop will not boot into your OS (Windows generally). If it does end up booting into your OS, then it sounds like your LCD has died or become unplugged inside the laptop.

Power comes on but the screen stay`s black dose it have a screen lock or stand by

Black screens can be caused by many things the first bit of video runs through the ram, so try changing the ram or swaping it. the next thing that causes a black screen is the LCD Inverter or the back light bulb to test this is take a flash light and shine it on the screen at an angle and see of you can make any faint images out. Next dis-assemble the laptop and see if the processor is heating up or staying cool.

Hope this helps!

Monito Black at startup ACER ASPIRE 2920

some times the data cable and the power cable to the LCD screen get loose due to handling or missuse/installation errors. so try to remove the cover just above your keybord.with a thin screw driver where u will see the small jacks for the LCD. remove and refix it and see. if it does not solve the problem, check ur battery condition. If the battery condition is ok, load a xp boot disk and reinstall the OS.

LET ME KNOW IF IT SOLVES UR PROBLEM

My monitor will not turn on

Test it with another monitor to see if all is well and if you see things then there is a problem with the LCD.  Come back here for more instructions.

Laptop Wont Boot

Does it sound like it's starting up at all? Is the problem that only the screen turns blank? You might have just disabled the standard output. Try pressing Fn (bottom left on the keyboard) and the F5 on the top a few times to see if the screen toggles back on. You might also try to run it without the battery, and on the battery only in case it's a faulty battery or power supply that causes the problem. If not, it sounds lsike a serious problem, so if there is any chance of the waranty still being valid I'd call acer support asap.
