Question about Frigidaire Washing Machines

3 Answers

I have the Frigidaire Gallery Series washer and dryer and I have a problem with both. The washer has accumulated a nasty layer of dirt, mildrew and who knows what else on the rubber seal and window. The stuff on the window is easy enough to wipe off, but how do I get rid of the other stuff and the smell? The lint basket is very difficult to clean out completely. The liner is now cracked and clothes with thin straps get caught on it, are twisted in the drying cycle to the point of tearing the clothes. Please help!

Any other suggestions for either the washer or dryer other than taking them apart or buying new ones? They are only three years old.

Hmmm...well..sounds like your unit is eligible for a thorough(honey do) episode, if he is so inclined. Otherwise, you are experiencing what's commonly called wear and tear, from most likely faithful service of a valuable appliance.

maybe it's time to consider a new one?

if not, then taking it apart will require patience, tools, and perhaps some cleaning solutions that are not amenable to the human skin.

Makes a ticking or clicking noise when dryer is on. How can I fix it? The heat and tumbler still works though.

Hi Lisa, thank you for your post!

Based on the above-listed model number, FEX831CS it shows you have a Frigidaire laundry center. However, you mentioned that it is a gallery series. So do you have a laundry center or a Frigidaire gallery dryer? In order to better address the issue, what is your model number? You can typically locate the serial tag, which lists your model number, on the right or left edge on the inside of the door. How often do you hear the ticking or clicking noise? With this information I can better assist you. Thank you!

Frigidaire gallery remove pedestals

There should be a bracket on the front and back of the pedestal with screws going into the bottom of the washer or dryer. Many times it is inset so you do not normally see it. Remove the screws in the bracket and it should come right off.
If you do not have brackets it might be screwed in from within the pedestal body in which case you would have to take out the drawer to get to the screws.

Mildrew, stale water smell in laundry

Run a very hot wash on your machine with no load

Fill a bucket with a strong solution of soda crystals and pour it into the machine first

Add some more crystals to the soap dispenser

Use an old fashioned soap powder for a couple of washes as well and reduce the load slightly

Modern soap powders do not contain certain bleaches and soda and the 40 degree wash leaves body fats and oils inside which cause odours

Dirt streaks appear after laundering

Grease seal for the bearings need to be replace. Unless you are a DIYer this is an expensive repair. Labor to install a new grease seal is about 400 to 500 dollars depending on the area. Parts will run about 100 to 150 dollars. The grease seal is cheap about a $10.00 part, but since ypou have the washer torn apart, and the grease seal has fail, you should also replace the bearings.
