Question about Roper RTW4300SQ Top Load Washer

1 Answer

3 year old Roper top load washing machine will fill with water but the timer does not advance and it does not begin any type of cycle. I checked the lid switch both physically and with an ohmmeter and it checks out just fine. When I pull the timer knob it will begin to fill with water but will not do anything past that. I'm assuming my next step is to test the timer, but how do I do this? There are quite a few different wires and connections behind it, and I don't want to start taking it apart before I have at least some idea as to what I am doing. Thanks!

Check the lid-closed switch. Once filled with water, most machines will not agitate or spin unless the lid is closed.

Most washers have a small screen at the water inlet valve. They can be accessed simply by revoving the hose from the back side of the washer, using a small screw driver you can carefully remove the screens and clean them out under a faucet. That may be all that is wrong.

SOURCE: Roper top load washing machine. Fills with water and then stops

Check out the drain pump, it is not uncommon stuff gets stuck in the impeller preventing it to do its work.

Also check out the drain filter and that the drain tube is not clogged. Very common causes of trouble in my experience and would give symptoms like you describe..

A good method to check if the output side is clear may seem a little gross but... take a deep breath and blow through the drain tube from the other end (taking whatever precautions you feel like).... It should be possible and if you can't, you know where the problem is.

Good luck!

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

If this is the case, turn off the water and remove the hoses. Check both hoses to be sure the filter screens are not clogged with crud and that the hoses aren't kinked.

Simpson enduro 701 very slow to fill and timer sticks

Hi my name is joyce, sounds like you have trash in you water filter that is in your water line that comes in your machine in the back of washer, this may be the cause for the slow water and the timer will cause the machine not to advance to the next cycle, if you would like I will help to find a service techincian.
