So I noticed that my microwave needed cleaning because one day it just shut off. It was still plugged in and then I cleaned it nice and it still will not turn on. I'm not sure what else is wrong?

If it's completely dead, then the main fuse in it could have blown. On some ovens, an open thermal protector can also cause a dead condition.

Unit completely dead. no lights no fan no keypad wall outlet tests OK

The microwave oven internal fuse has blown, unplug unit, remove top case 2 to 6 screws, on right side look for a long rectangular silver capacitor, "carefull high voltage" the ceramic fuse should be next to it, "white body with silver ends" remove and replace with same rating. If the fuse blows again chances are the door switch is defective and must be replaced.

My countertop microwave stopped working. What was the problem? Can you help?

If it is completely dead, no light, motor or keypad, it's probally a blown line fuse. Open up the cabinet and you should be able to find a fuse near the power cord. An appliance supply house should be able to get you a replacement.

The microwave stopped working. It will not turn on and the outlet is functional

If it is completely dead, meaning, that the display, keypad, oven light does not work. The problem is most likely that the line fuse is blown. Remove the cabinet screws and remove the cabinet. The fuse should be close to either the power cord or the electrical circuit board. Replace with the same type of fuse.

Q - My microwave went dead when I opened the door ( same problem as closed the door ).
A - This often is a stuck or faulty door switch and it has blown the interior microwave fuse.
Q - My microwave is completely dead.
A - House fuse has blown or interior fuse inside the microwave has blown ( usually a part inside the microwave makes this fuse blow ) Sometimes a bad fuse holder inside the microwave cannot hold the fuse tight enough and the fuse will blow as well.
Q - My microwave blows the fuse inside itself as soon as I push the start button.
A - Usually a shorted high voltage capacitor...see components section.
Q - I burnt something in my microwave and now it is dead...help!
A - The fuse inside the microwave may have blown, but more commonly the flame/oven thermostat has sensed the over cooked food and the flame/oven/cavity thermostat has opened up - Info on that
Q - My microwave seems to shut off every once in a while, what might be wrong?
A - Make sure you hear the fan is still operating in your microwave. Next is to make sure the air intake grill on your microwave is not plugged up with air borne dust and dirt.
Q - The microwave makes a loud "hum or buzz" noise but will not heat up the food?
A - 9 times out of 10 this is usually this is a bad magnetron, the other time is sometimes a bad high voltage diode. See components section.

Danby 1000 Watt Microwave is completely dead. Just stopped working right after heating up a dinner.

you may have just blown a fuse inside the microwave or the transformer inside has now failed and will need replacing but it will need to be looked at to see what exactly happened

Sharp R1420B Totally dead. Power to unit is ok.

Most of these have internal line fuses inside of the casing. Once you remove the housing that covers the top and sides, follow the wires from the cord and they should lead you to the fuse. They are usually on the front rh side looking at it from the front. Be careful, even though unplugged, this unit still stores alot of electriacal energy in the capacitor.

Does the digital display light up at all? Is it completely dead? Are you sure it has power? Have you tried another outlet? If the outlet is good and the unit is completely dead, the internal fuse may have blown. You can try to take the cover off (with the unit unplugged) and look for a blown fuse. Try replacing the fuse with an EXACT fuse of the same rating. Try plugging the unit back in again and see if the unit comes back on. If not, you may have a power supply issue or defective Magnetron.

Please let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

Good Luck,
- Jim
