Refrigerator isn't working anymore

Freezer worked fine but the refrigerator is getting warmer by the day. Took the back panel out of the freezer and it was packed full of ice. So I think I've figured out why the refrigerator was warm. When I got done i pluged it back in and now the only thing that is working is the light. The refrigerator was bought back in 8/04. HELP!!!!

Where do I find the thremostat? The refrigerator was losing its coldness for two weeks and I opened the freezer and found ice on the wall at the bottom. Took off the panel and the lower coils were frozen solid. I took my hair dryer and for 70 minutes I melted all the ice. I pluged the refrigerator in again and the freezer is very cold but the refrigerator walls are cold, but the inside is cool but not cold as it should be. I never let the coils under the refrigerator get dirty. I cleaned them twice a year and had my husband tip the refrigerator so I could remove any dust collected, so thats is not my problem. When I first purchased the GE Profile ref. I had the same problem and they came out and repaired it. I wish I has kept the info on the problem.
Do you still think it is the thermostat. I so, how does one go about replacing it and how and where is the old one located?
Thank you for alll you time.
Blessings,
Janice?

Check the motor of the refrigerator if the motor is functioning if isn't the motor is damaged or short circuit. Also check the prion if there's a leak if there is search for the place were the leak is coming.

My GE deep freezer seems to be getting warmer. There only seems to be a freezer sensor panel. Does this mean that the sensor is broken or is there another way to get the freezer back to a deep freeze?

Amana AFD2535DEW freezer/refrigerator with intermittent tempurature swings

I had the same issue. It was the relay overload which essentially provides the extra boost to get the compressor going. The switch tries for about 10 seconds before giving up and then retries 3 - 4 minutes later. In the early stages of failure, eventually it will work and the compressor will kick on. But eventually the switch will fail and will just cycle through the 10 second attempt every 3 to 4 minutes. The part is about $35 - part number 67005560.

Freezer/Refrigerator tempurature swinging wildly

The compressor is overheating and not starting. Could be just the start relay. If this happens again try unplugging it for about an hour then it should work for a while. Heat between doors is normal this is an electric heater designed to keep the doors from sweating. You just noticed it because the refrigerator wasn't cold.

Cooling problem with a ge top freezer refrigerator

I have one that did the same. The coil in the back of the freezer was frosting up because it wasn't defrosting like it was supposed to. I noticed that the thermostat looked damaged so I ordered a new one from sears parts direct which by the way will show a diagram of the model you have. I just installed it last night so I will post how it comes out. This morning the freezer has a burnt smell but I am hoping its from the defrost not working for a while!
