Question about Dell Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Have tried to complete an installation with the DELL Reinstallation CD (Windows XP, Home Edition) includes Service Pack 1a. Unfortunatley it will not complete as random files, drivers etc are missing. I think the CD may be scratched and the computer cannot read them. Can I download these files from another computer and transfer them via USB memory stick to complete the installation. Any recommendations would be appreciated. In particular I am after Prounstl.exe from Intel PRO Adapter.
Have you added or changed your computer's hardware since you purchased your computer? Your Dell reinstallation disk will probably only work for the original configuration of your machine. If this is the case, dust off your old parts, remove your newer parts, then reinstall your old ones to get your system back to its original configuration. Once there, try the reinstallation again.
If this does not apply to you (or you can't get it to work), you can always purchase the operating system new (from newegg, tigerdirect or similar) and install from a disk that will have all of the drivers you need. OEM versions are cheapest, but you are on your own for support in the event of a problem. I hope this helps.
