Question about HP LaserJet 2605dn Printer

1 Answer

Even though I have the settings on B&W print only, my color ink cartridges run out the same time as my black ink - or so says the printer. Any way around that?

Sorry - wasn't clear. My fear is that the printer is using color cartridges to make black ink even though I have my print instructions to print in gray scale only. I will try your suggestion to replace the black ink only and hit override for the color. However, when I have "fooled" the printer by shaking the color cartridges and resubmitting, they still appeared to run out within a few days and the printer refused to print until I replaced all four cartridges. I will hit the rating button below. Do you know if this printer has to use all 4 cartridges with PCs when printing B

If cartridges are fine, you can Override the Replace Supplies Message. Follow the instructions given below from (Page 146) of HP 2605dn Manual
Even though I have the settings on B&W print - creativetech_14.jpg

I have done it myself and it works fine. Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Good Luck!
Appreciate generously, if the solution could have been of any help!

Thank you -- shaking the cartridges has bought a little time. I'll try this! My suspicion is that the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn is simply an ink hog that uses color to print the black. If your suggestion works - great, if not it'll be cheaper to buy a quality B

Thanks for the response Jenifer. Please refer to Page 40, Label-5. The control panel the Printer shows the toner levels in each cartridge and if the supply is empty, the gauge flashes. The toner level is estimated on the basis of the print jobs sent to the printouts and it is recorded by a small microchip on the toner cartridge. You may assess the toner level by its weight and by looking through the transparent square hole on the cartridge. Actually, most of the time the cartridges have enough toner level to give many more printouts. Here, the method of overrides comes in that I described earlier . While printing in gray scale (monochrome) it utilizes the black cartridge only. Secondly, using a B Grade Cartridge is not recommended. this would definately lead to poor quality of prints, leaking toner ane less life of the toner cartridges. I suggest that you go for the supplies override as it has worked fine for me and helped many fixya users who greatly appreciated my solution/ suggestion. Feel free to let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required. Also, I would be glad if you improve the rating of my solution. Takecare,

Canon iP6600D printer keep printing in Blak ink only

1st option, set the default profile in the printer properties. if it doesnt work. this will change all the settings that you might missed to check to go back to factory setings. also, check if your color cartridge is ok and with enough ink and not dis abled
2nd option, run any 3rd party software that can fix some windows system files or something like that. try to scan pc for viruses
3rd option, reformat your pc. maybe windows files that allows your printer to work are having problems or corrupted, base on the thing that you mentioned that it goes back to the grayscale settings

Printer won't print B&W even though black cartridge is full but 2 colours are empty.

Although you are only trying to print a B & W picture, the color print cartridge/cartridges must also contain ink in order for the printer to work. All print cartridges must contain ink for printing of any type to take place.
Load the color print cartridges and the B & W picture will print.
If you were trying to print a color picture and the B & W cartridge was empty, the printer also, would not print.
I hope this helps you out.
Good Luck

Why can't I print black and white, without colored ink?

I have the same problem & have been searching for weeks for a replacement printer that will print B & W with one or more colors empty. I haven't had any luck yet - I did run across a post that said: For black and white images and photos, a blend of colors called "composite black" may be used to achieve significantly better image quality and smoother gray tones than can be accomplished with black inks alone. I'm still searching...

Canon MP150 consumes color ink when ''Ink Cartidge'' = ''Black Only''

In order to keep the printhead free of clogs, all inkjet printers 'clean' the cartridges (color & black) fairly often. In my experience, a printer that is used regularly doesn't need 'cleaning' as often as it is done since this is an ink-wasting procedure and one that keeps the orders coming in for new cartridges where the vast majority of the profit is. Printers used only infrequently do have a tendency to clog and produce the poor quality we all hate.
Epson printers have ceramic printheads (the models I know) which will last just about forever providing they are used regularly. In home use, they have an ugly tendency to clog and often cannot be restored to their otherwise excellent performance. Printers using the integrated printhead/cartridge are easier to keep printing but this system makes the replacement cost much higher and the manufacturing cost slightly higher.
While HP hardware and consumables were made in the US (outside San Diego), I knew employees there and the early integrated cartridges cost a whole ~ 85 cents to produce and $20-$30 dollars to buy at retail.
Printing quality has unquestionably improved but it isn't likely to get any cheaper.

My printer has an almost full black cartridge but will not print.

Check the ink lines, the printer head might be clogged, If thats not fixing anything then check your printer settings on the computer and remove the color option. Changing it to black and white can somtimes just be from color, not just black.

PRINT IN BLACK WITH COLOR CARTRIDGE?

Yes, you can print out in black from a color cartridge, however it is not advised as you will run out of colored ink twice as fast as it combines all the colors to get black. However it works great when your in a pinch and need black ink.
Just go to your printer properties when you print and the option will be in there someware.
