You shouldn't need a new carburetor. You just need to clean it. First, drain the gas out of the machine. You can do this by removing the fuel line where it attatches to the carburetor. Then, remove the bolt that holds the float bowl on the bottom of the carburetor. There will be an external washer on it. so be careful. The brass bolt that holds the bowl on the carburetor is also the main jet of the carburetor. There are very small holes in the bottom of the bolt and in the sides of it where the smooth section is. Clean it very well as these holes are very small. Reinstall the bolt after wiping clean the float bowl and reassemble. Careful with the carburetor body gasket that goes in between the bowl and the upper part of the carburetor body. make sure it is in place correctly all the way around. Add some fuel cleaner to your gas and run the machine..The built up gum and varnish in dried up gasoline is usually the cause of this problem. If an inline fuel filter isn't used, these same symptoms can develop also as water and trash enter the carburetor.

Replaced fuel lines and primer bulb ON A BOLENS LB 160 25 cc TRIMMER. Primer bulb stays in and wont pop out. it pops out after abouot 3 minutes or if I loosen the primer bulb mounting screws

Check the carburetor internal filter screen for clogging. Also the primer assembly itself maybe bad. If the primer assembly itself is bad a new carburetor is in order.

I have a 20 hp 2 stroke mariner i think its a 97 so not very old i bought it a couple days ago and the guy ran it for 10 mins straight no problem but when i got on the water and tried starting it it would...

Couple things to check and try. Firstly, most problems with 2 stroke motors generally involve fuel, air and ignition. I would check the following in this order:

1. Ensure your fuel you are using is fresh. Don't use oil that is more than a couple weeks old. Ensure also that you have 2-stroke oil mixed in at the correct ratio for your motor (likely 50:1).
2. Check the fuel lines all the way from the tank to the motor. Ensure their are no leaks at any joins or connections.
3. Make sure your primer bulb is attached in the right direction. There will be an arrow on the primer bulb to show the direction of flow. The arrowe should point TOWARD to the motor.
4. If the fuel line uses a quick connect/release fitting, check the motor end fitting and ensure the rubber gaskets are in place and if it had a spring-loaded ball in the fuel line part (to prevent fuel from flowing out when not connected), make sure this ball is there, intact amd is working (push on it lightly so that it pushes in, and check it springs back to close off the opening.
5. Take the top cover off the motor and find the fuel filter. Watch it as your squeeze the primer bulb on the fuel line. You should see fuel flowing, or at least some bubbling action or movement of fuel through it. If not, check your fuel line for blockage or issues with primer bulb or connectors not working as they should.
6. Its a good idea to take the top of the fuel filter and check in the internal filter element (usually plastic) is not damaged or blocked.

Moving on...

If you say it is starting ok, then the chambers are obviously getting spark and ignition, but checl your spark plugs are in good condition and gapped appropriately. Also check they are the correct type.

Make sure whenever you run the motor that it has a supply of cooling water around the intakes down near the prop. Ensure these intake areas are not blocked.
When running it next, if it keeps dying after 10-15 seconds, try keep it running by squeezing the fuel primer bulb regularly to manually pump fuel into the motor. If this keeps it running, the cause is obviously fuel flow. Here you might need to check or have checked, the carburettor which would likely need adjustment, or possibly just a good cleaning (which usually means a proper dismantling and re-assembly to clean it well.

Anyway try those things above and you will probably find the answer, or the lead to the answer among those hints and checks.

A relative has a weed eater featherlite 20c and thr primer bulb doesnt keep gas in it,is it supposed to?and if so what is the cause? And it want stay running unless u keep it running wide open. Why is that?

The machine is having a fuel delivery issue The purge/primer bulb PULLS fuel from the fuel tank, thru the carb and then to itself it pull any air/old fuel in the carb...and the PUSHES this mixture back to the fuel tank. There are check valves in carbs that have the bulb on them..Deteriorated fuel lines clog a screen in the carb and the ethanol in the gas works to deteriorate the fuel pump and metering diaghram in these carbs...You have to start at the tank with the fuel filter and go from there.
I'd say from the running symptons that a diaghram kit is needed for the carb...they are cheap and easily installed.

Primer bulb won't re-fill.

Not sure about your particular set-up, but there is usually two fuel lines running from the fuel tank. One goes to the carb and the other goes on a fitting on back of the primer bulb. The primer bulb will have a second fitting with a line going to carb. Sounds like either a clogged or leaking fuel line to me. Hope this helps and good luck.

Ryobi 790r i have changed the gas line and the primer bulb . the primer will mash in 1 good time and then gets very hard to mash in . i fully choke it and it will crank but only for 3 seconds until it...

You cannot flood the engine by pushing the primer bulb too much, unless the hoses are hooked up backwards. The primer does not push gas to the carb, it sucks gas through the carb and returns it to the tank. Top barb on primer is the hose coming from the return side of the carb and the bottom fitting is the hose going to the return fitting on the tank. Look inside tank, it is the one without the filter on it, just a flange with a hole in the center.

If you can see gas and air bubbles moving through the primer and into the tank the hoses are on correctly. If you see bubbles going in the correct direction and then reversing when you remove your finger from the bulb, then the check valves in the primer may be bad. Replace primer.

When you say the primer "gets hard to mash", do you mean it is hard to push in or is it very slow to refill and return to the home position? If it is hard to push in and the bulb is full of gas and the hoses are on correctly then there must be a plug in the line going to the tank or the vent in the gas cap is not working. If it does not return, then it is most likely a plugged filter, plugged line from the tank to the carb, plugged screen inside the carb or a stuck needle valve. The primer is creating a slight vacuum to pull the gas through the carb, which is what the carb does when the engine is running. If there is a full or partial restiction on the supply circuit neither the primer nor the carb can pull enough gas for the engine to run. May need to disassemble carb and clean out any varnish, gunk or plugged ports/jets. Use spray carb cleaner. May want to think about a diaphagm and gasket kit if you do it yourself. If you do not feel confident in taking apart the carb, then take to a repair shop.
