This is a common problem easy to fix but tricky to explain so please bare with me...You need to put the machine on it's side and if you take the handle and move it up to the point where it stops and won't go any further stopping it from being able to go straight up and lock into place. You need to look at the spot that it is touching and the spot you are looking for should be attached to the foot pedal that let the handel down. The pedal pulls a piece of plastic out of the way so that it can fall back, what has happened is the piece of plastic has moved into lock position but the handle is behind it. you need to manually pull the plastic piece that is attached to the foot pedal out of the way so you can get the handle up straight and then let the plastic piece go and it should be in the right position at this point.
This is the best that I can explain it without being there to show you so please take your time and look at it carefully and you should be able to with my instructions I have given you get it back to normal.
If this has helped you please remember to click on the yes box on your way out and good luck! thanks again for choosing Fixya!

the reason it wont sit back up is that there is a piece of the foot pedal essembly that has moved into the way of where the part of the lockinjg piece sits. You need to put it on its side and move the handle up and down until you see the spot where it is hitting and it shoulod be right at the foot pedal. push the foot pedal with your hand so it is in the unlock position as though you were getting ready to use it and you were letting the handle down, hold it down and manually pull back the pice that is in the way as it shouls move back and rest on the foot pedal part and you will be able to let the handle all the way up. To assure this you may notice that the foot pedal wont go all the way back up after you have stepped on it but once you do this the foot pedal will go all the way back up. I know this was a bit hardd to understand but withoput bieng there it is tricky. I hope this has helped and please remember to click on the yes box if this has helped you. Thanks again and good luck!

I have a Dyson I took out the screws to clean it before I opened the canister now I can not get it together again

You're a bit unclear on what screws you took apart to 'clean it'. If you took the canister apart, then this Snapguide page
How to Clean Dyson DC07 Canister goes through taking the top section thoroughly apart, and has some notes about things needing to line back up properly, which might help in the event that you're not getting things to snap back together right. I took mine apart solo after picking it up cheap at a flea market, and also recall reassembling the top took a little patience.

Good Luck!

I have a dyson animal d17 i have taken apart completly and cleaned all filters and clogs and i still have little to no suction and wont turn on in the upright position

With no suction you should check the venturis. They can become clogged if you suck up wet dust, wet cat litter, etc. You\'ll need a Torx Screwdriver to get it apart. See where that gets you.

Dyson has no suction and hose doesn't work

Hi Brenna, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17 Absolute. I can see that you've already checked for blockages, but the issues you've describe do strongly suggest that there's a blockage somewhere in the machine. You might want to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide, as this should help you locate any obstructions you may have missed:

If you aren't able to find a blockage, but continue to have difficulty with your vacuum, please email us so our experts can help further. You can reach us at askdysonUS@dyson.com.

I took my Dyson DC 25 Animal apart to clean it, and now the red foot pedal won't lock the vacuum into the upright position anymore. The trouble is the spring pin for the pedal popped out and I can't figure...

That spring thing goes where the pedal screws into the side. When 'facing' the dyson in the front, it's on the left side. The spring's circle part and short stem section goes into a divot area on the pedal. The other end is tensioned (braced) against some housing piece, but once you insert the spring part in the pedal end part, you should be able to figure it out from there.
This darned spring makes the pedal 'tensioned' to where it pops back up vs. flopping nonsensically.

Hi, i took apart filters to clean in my dyson dc25 and put it back together as said...and now its making a highpitch whinning sound

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It may be worth taking the filter in the ball out and putting it back making sure it has clicked back into place securely.

My dyson dc17 animal will pick up via the hose attachment but there is no suction when you use the regular vaccuum on the floor - you can hear the difference in the suction once you put the floor part down...

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when upright and then moves forward when the head is released. If the brush bar is still not spinning when switched on in the vacuuming position, check the base for blockages and remove any threads or hairs from the brush bar as outlined in your user guide or on our website.

My Dyson D17 won't work while upright.

check and make sure you have the gasket installed correctly that goes on the center of the cyclone and seals against the canister trap door. If this is backwards, you can lose a lot of suction and it will plug your permanent filter quickly.

I have a Dyson Animal upright (purple). I took it apart to clean the cyclone chambers. When re-assembling the bottom closed before the opening rod was inserted. I can't get the opening rod installed with...

I looked in our DC07. I would try removing the top again and getting a long dowel or the opening rod, insert it down into the unit and PUSH. The opening rod opens the latch by pushing it, not pulling it. Here are some pictures of the latch. Top pic is in the unlock position. Bottom is the normal position.

I hope this helps.

My dyson dc 17 does not work when in the upright position

I had this same issue today, after not being able to find a solution, I took apart the brush area by unscrewing the three simple screws... my belt had a TON of dog and cat hair built up inside it so I cleaned that out and it did the trick.
