Question about Aqua Flo Aquaflo Flo Master Xp2 Spa Pump 1.5 Hp Two Speed

1 Answer

I have a bull frog spa with two flo-master pumps, specifically Emerson extreme- e model number r23mwdma-175. Spa is noisy and had made a burning smell. Is this a motor, impelled, or other problem? My search led me to the Flo master with horse power shown attached. The actual HP shown on the motor plateis 2.5/.33

Common sources for a burning smell in order of most likely, depending on how your spa was equipped, in my opinion would be:

Blower motor - Worn out brushes on a DC motor arc heavily and will give off an odor.
Heater - Elements build up scale over time with less than ideal water chemistry and will give off an odor when heating.
Pump - As a pump nears total failure it can overheat enough to begin to burn the winding insulation and tie down cords causing a burning smell.
Control box/electronics - least likely but a failing relay or GFI recepticle can also burn and eventually fail.

Need to replace a flo-master vp motor and pump model 00710000-2 code 05186 this is the recirculating/heat pump for a therma spa. any ideas where I can find one? looking online I found some...

Part numbers off the motor aren't always useful as they could only refer to the motor not the complete pump or possibly a part number assigned to a specific spa OEM.
The FMVP's (Flo-Master Vertical Pump) are still available, in 1 speed & 2 speed configurations.
Complete FVMP pumps and select replacement parts are available here.
Hope that helps

My flo-Master XP2 06620397-2 has large leak when the jets are turned on. Do I need a new one or can the leak be repaired?

sounds like you need a new seal kit if it is leaking between the plastic pump housing and the motor. this seal kit is a model PS-200 and will run you about $30

What is the serial number that goes with the motor model number? I am assuming the 06-620390-2 is off the motor; if not please also add the motor brand and model number as well.

Pump noisy on speed one sounds like plastic caught in the pump volute

Assuming you checked to be sure nothing was broken inside the pump and no foreign object was inside it would then be your motor bearings starting to fail and/or the motors internal starting switch mechanism. Your best bet is to take the unit to a local electric motor repair shop (at the begining of the week if the tub might freeze) for them to inspect the motor/pump for damage and quote repairs or a new unit.

I have a flo-master 06620390-2 pump that failed in my hot tub. Is there a quieter and more efficient replacement or should I replace with same?

You are generally better off replacing the pump with the same model. Hot tubs are noisy unless you have a really good insulation job. It is unlikely changing the pump will make it any different as far as noise goes. The flip side is that the manufacturer sized the pump to match the hydraulic load present within your specific tub and to provide the necessary flow rate to keep the water clean. It can lead to problems if you put in the wrong replacement unit.
