In your owner's manual (available free online here) this is called the "microwave inlet cover".

See the tag in your oven cooking cavity or near the door frame for your full model number.

The cover is located in the ceiling of the oven.

You should be able to remove and clean or replace the cover without removing the oven from the wall.

The oven installation instructions and parts list are also on that page.

Hello,i have microwave KHHS179LSS-2. Display indicate code F7. I check magnetron thermostat resistance is 0 ohms. I replace 1100W inventor. Microware stil indicade code F7. Thanks for you help.

From a similar model's tech sheet (and yours should have one hidden inside):

F7
Power to magnetron interrupted
1. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
2. After 40 seconds, check to see whether this solves the problem.
3. Check resistance of the magnetron thermostat.
4. Check the magnetron. See this file for details.
5. Check wiring to the 1100W inverter and control system. See "Checking Inverters"
6. Check operation of all interlock switches. See this text file. Check door, hinge and cavity front alignment. Adjust as needed.
7. If switches operate correctly, replace 1100W inverter.
8. If problem persists, replace electronic control.
9. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (KHHS179LSS2 without dashes or spaces) from the tag on the oven here.

Hi, I am a KitchenAid employee and would appreciate the opportunity to assist you with your icemaker. If you send an email to

KitchenAid_CustomerExperience@KitchenAid.com with 'Attn: Audrey' in the subject line, I can forward you a copy of the use and care manual, which includes installation instructions. It would also be helpful if you would include your serial number as well.

Microwave exaust fan starts on its own

There's a humidity sensor in this microwave oven that turns on the fan automatically if it senses an excess amount of humidity (steam from cooking for example) to possibly protect humidity or moisture from building up inside the unit.

I'd recommend that your bookmark this link to your favorites.

You'd have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) to get to the inner parts.

You can also watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

Error flashing on display KHHS179LSS

If you pull off the top louver (it just pulls straight off) usually (mine does) there is a small technician manual (is a small black plastic bag) on the right side above the control panel. It shows all the error codes and what they mean. It shows how to enter test mode and exit which may clear the error. Hope this helps.

Replace the buttons on a kitchenaid microwave Khhs179lss-5

First, you need to uninstall the microwave (MW) from the cabinet by removing the screws that hold it in place at the top. Open the cabinet doors above the MW to locate the screws.
You will need someone to help you at this point in removing the screws and dropping the MW down. Be sure and unplug the MW before you remove the screws.
Next, you need to take the cover/shell off by locating and removing screws A/R. They are mostly across the back and side bottom.
From there on out, you should be able to methodically find and locate the various fasteners that will get to the button pad.

KitchenAid KHHS179lss, fried magnitron?

If your magnetron was shorted, the unit would not heat at all.

The sound of a shorted magnetron is usually a loud hum-- but no or very little smell and no smoke.

Components in the High Voltage section -capacitor, diode- give problems if they short out.

Microwave Shuts off...

It sounds like you may have a loose fuse holder or an intermittent part such as one of the thermostats, such as the one mounted on the magnetron.

One thing to try is to cook on the lowest power setting or defrost to see if it runs longer or fails more quickly.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Touch error

Your membrane keypad has probably failed.

If it is still under warranty, please contact the manufacturer's number in your owner's manual.

If you might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

It's at http://www.microwavedisplay.com/keypad_replacement.pdf

We have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Essentially you unplug the oven from the wall outlet, and remove the control panel assembly as per the instructions at the site linked above.

(Remove the grille from across the top, remove the top screw in the control panel frame, then lift up & out).

There should also be a very helpful "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille.

Then unplug the keypad from the circuit board, heat up the keypad from the front with a hair dryer, then peel the old keypad off.

You have to make sure all the old adhesive is off or the new keypad will not stick.

I use paint thinner or mineral spirits, then follow up with isopropyl alcohol to be sure the panel face is squeaky clean and dry.

Then peel the backing paper from the new keypad and carefully press the new keypad in place.

You need to be precise - you cannot apply it, peel it off, then reapply it.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
