Take the time to check to see if the belt that drives the brush is operating correctly. I would also see if the brush itself is frozen up and unable to move. You need to remove the brush in order to change the belt. It would be a good time to clean the brush of all debris and add some WD40 to the plastic tabs at the end of the brush. Add the WD40 and turn the tabs around the brush to make sure the turn freely. Reassemble with a new belt.
If you find this solution to be beneficial, a Thumbs Up rating from you would be appreciated. Paul

I caught a shoestring in the brush and now it won't turn. I pressed the "overload protector reset" button but it's just loose and seems to have no effect.

Hi. I think it may still need resetting. Keep pushing reset. If this does not help remove the brush the turn it on. It should start. If so, there still may be somethng in the brush bearing that is stopping it from turning. It could also be that the belt broke when you got the lace. Let me know please, hope this helps. Chris

Agitator doesnt turn

There is actually a reset button on the agitator, I would try pushing this switch first to see if this fixes it. The button is located on one of the sides of the agitator housing, I'm not sure if it's the left or the right side, or on the top of it.

Look on the sides of the part of the vacuum that is on the floor and see if you can see a small red pole on either side. If you can't find it here, look on the top of the part of the vacuum that touches the floor for a brush overload reset switch.

Try pushing that poll whenever you find it. This switch is a protection mechanism that will shut the brushes down to protect them if something gets vacuum up inside of the brush, it will automatically shut itself off to prevent any damage.

Simply push this overload switch down, and this should hopefully fix your problem.

If this didn't, please let me know and I can walk you through some more advanced troubleshooting.

If this was helpful, please be so kind and rate my repair, or leave feedback.

Thank you!

The brush has stopped turning when used in the upright position

I have one too and I'm trying to fix it as I write this.I also have an older version and I've had no luck.I've taken evey screw out ,spayed tweeked and tried everything possible.my solution would be to stay away from Hoover steam spin scrubs.I'm going to invest in one with brushes like a vacuum. Those that are easily replaced as well as the drive for it be it a belt or a turbine like I've read this unit has

The brush is not rotating

Try pushing the reset button with a pen or paper clip. If that doesn't work, the motor may need to replaced. If the reset button is stuck, I don't know how to fix it - mine has the same problem.

I have a model 116.35922 beltless drive vacuum. The agitator brush will not turn with the vacuum running and the handle down. The brush turns by hand and the reset button has not popped. Ther is nothing...

I just had the same problem. The roller will not turn if the unit is overheated. I discovered that my bag was too full. I changed the bag then the roller started turning again. I don't know if this is true cause and effect, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Brush won't turn

The Agitator Overload switch is located on the top of the base assembly. Unplug the vacuum and press the reset button. The vacuum also has thermal protection, which will reset itself once the vacuum cools. The agitator will also stop when the vacuum is in the full upright position.

Agitator wont turn

Some of these have a resetable circuit breaker, if it has one, push it. There is a motor on the brush roll which could be bad. There also is an on/off switch, it may have a problem. Also may have a switch where the hose goes into, some models have a actuator for the switch, when the hose is pushed in, it actuates the switch so the brush roll motor turns on and stops when you pull the hose out.

Kenmore direct drive will no longer self-propell

There may also be a reset button. If the brushes get stuck the unit can shut off power to the brushes to keep a total melt down from occurring. The reset button should return power in these types of vacuums.
