Question about Dell Dimension 4700C PC Desktop

1 Answer

4700C when press power on button, no activity on monitor. Fan is running but hard drive does not make any sounds that tell me it is accessing. Power on light stays yellow, does not turn green. Reseated video card, memory, power cables. No success. pulled out the CMOS battery and reseated it, same result. tested out monitor with seperate PC, cable and monitor are fine. Video card shot? or Power supply issue? Please advise.

It could be either or... Dell however has known issues with their power supplies. If it was completely bad it wouldnt have any power to it what so ever. There are 2 things that you can do, depending on your knowledge and comfort level with your computer. Also if you have the parts available to do so. If so try the following, remove your power supply from your dell, if you have another one that you know works, take this one out as well and hook it up into your dell, just make sure that you label each cable before taking it out so you'll be able to properly hook it back up. Try booting back up after putting the other power supply in, if same result, try switching your video card out. Its usually a process of elimination with these kinds of things. Let me know how that works and we'll take step 2 if needed.
Thanks

Hp P6000 fans stop after 15 seconds. Hard drive light stays on. nothing on monitor

dead PC, DESKTOP PC ,as old as 2009.
the fans tells you the PSU shut off, for cause.
fans, so you saw all fans turn off or just 1. or 2 of 3.
my pc has 4 fans many have 3;
CPU fan stops ,cpu overheats , PC goes slow or dead. clean the lint off it.
GPU fan , video goes dead. if it overheats.
PSU fan is inside the PSU if it goes bad, PSU is bad.
no monitor stated, is it CRT or LCD is it 15 years old.
if the monitor is 2002 or newer the OSD screen works
even with PC turned off, press the select button see that OSD screen ? telling you the monitor is not dead in 1second flat;
i caN NOT understand why the HDD lamp glows,
if the PSU shuts off , most LEDs go dead, on my PC
the standby LED on the MOBO glows, unless you pull the PSU power cord.
your HP PC came with 9 different mobo, during its production run.
at least. so answers come harder from that reason.

here are some simple tests.
test 1
power on, hear fans run
does the DVD drive (or cd) button eject work,.?
do all fans not just 1 or 2 worK? look for all fans clean the lent out
or things will overheat,
PSU can be bench tested or in the PC case.
using a jumper wire, even the HP service manual covers that.

power on the PC (after keeping monitor on for 5 full minutes)
test 2
the Screen must say, "hit ESC key to enter HP setup" BIOS.
press the ESC key on the monitor
if no text shows up that is a dead PC< "text above missing{"
if the PC told you to hit another key do so.
The ESC key , activates the BIOS brain. this cause
all those pages to work as seen in your service manual;.
if BIOS is dead that is a bad PSU (monitor ok)
or CPU is overheated.
bad ram, take all sticks out and test 1 by 1, ask how. !
The PSU will shut down on up to 12 or more faults
but never shuts down the standby power bus. unless AC line pulled.
IF the PSU has fan as most do this is the first place I look.

I have an acer aspire ax3960. The problem I have is that it will not boot up, here is a list of the current process that happens; 1. I press the power button, and for a millisecond the blue LED on the...

Try removing the battery, power supply, hard drive and RAM. Power up and see what happens, you Acer should complain. If it does, the mother board is probably OK. remove the power, fit the RAM and try again. If it now tells you it cannot boot, suspect the hard drive but power down, fit the drive and check it.

Black screen no cursor no keyboard use

When you powered on the machine did you hear any beeps, hear the fan running, the disk drive running, lights blinking, hear the cd drive click, see the light on the cd drive door for a second or two when it clicks? If these things are happening you are getting power. If not, your problem might be with your power supply, hard drive or motherboard. Remove the power cord, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and press the power button. if it boots you had a static charge. If you get nothing at all but a silent system your power supply is bad. If it sounds like your computer is running but you can't see anything on the screen you might have a problem with your screen or video card. If you have another monitor try using it and see what happens. if it works so you can see things then your monitor was bad. If it does not work with another monitor but you still hear fans, and see lights and hear the disk drive spinning, then your video card is probably bad.

There is a fast clicking intermittant noise.

Your harddrive could be failing or it could be your processor running. It's difficult to tell. You could run a SMART check on your hard drive to find out if it is failing.
Install this and run it, good luck.

My samsung r519 wont turn on. when i press the on button i here the fan going, yet the screen stay's black and only the power light comes on. what could the problem be?

Does the fan stay running? if it does! it is probably a motherboard issue, if the fan is working correctly it should wind down, and if the hard drive is working "hard drive light will flicker" hook a external monitor to the video output on the back of your laptop if you see windows boots up then it would indicate laptop screen problem, but if the fan and the power light are the only activity then the motherboard is the problem.

Possible hard drive failure

Does the splash screen come up? Most of the time if it is your hard drive the ACER splash screen will come up and then a Hard disk 0 error after that. If nothing appears on the screen then you have a bigger issue.

Is there any noise at all (Fan, hard drive spinning)? If so try hooking it to a external monitor to see if there is any movement. You might have a problem with your LCD.

Dell 4700c

take off the side panel of the computer and listen to it a little closer when its on. there are very few actual moving parts so i should be fairly easy to isolate the noise. if it's a fan anywhere in the computer it can be replaced for less than 20 dollars and shouldn't be left till it dies, replace it , it's protecting something.

If it's a cd drive making the noise , it can be replaced for 25 dollars.

If it's the hard drive, then you need to back up your important files AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, because when it crashes, you generally have a hard time retrieving stored information from it.
hard drives can be replaced for 50 to 150 dollars depending on type and how large it is.
Most times the noise from a computer comes from the fans and power supply, then the cd/dvd roms , then the hard drive : so check them in that order. post here again if you need further assistance.. Regards

Gateway T-1625 Laptop won't boot up at all

It sounds like a motherboard issue. The fan spinning and the LED lights are running off of battery power. This indicates that power is getting to the system. You should look into replacing the motherboard at this point. Before you replace the motherboard feel your system to see if there are any really hot spots that would indicate overheating. If not proceed with the replacement. If so, let me know where the hot spot is.

Dell 4700C randomly goes into "sleep mode" and doesn't wake up.

Honestly, my first suggestion would have been to upgrade your memory. If you go into control panel and check your power settings (I'm assuming you're on windows XP) Do you have all of you options set to "Never"? You may also want to check your BIOS settings to see how your sleep/hibernate is set up. Aside from that, you'd have to run some hardware diagnostics to give a better idea of what to look for. Hope this helps!
