Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

One of the letter keys on a Brother Correctronic 380 does not work. Obviously it is a switch problem but how do I open the case to see if I can fix it? I see no screws or any way to open it. Martin

These machines are actually not made to be disassembled. In the factory when they need to work on them they actually have to crack open the case, and end up replacing it with a new one when they are done. If you really want this unit repaired you will need to contact Brother to do it, at 800-284-4329

They will do the repair, although sadly it may be more cost effective to just replace it. You can break open the case if you really want to do it, just be careful how you crack it if you want it to have some semblance of a complete unit when you are done.

Thanks
Tim

How to install correctronic ribbon

Open top cover, small correction tape orange or yellow lift off is kind of tricky, left side goes on small spool holder feeding off the top and going around front of print wheel. by the way relaase the printwheel so it pivots back toward you, eaiser to see, correct tape goes in front of wheel and pivots very similar to left side. Correction tape has good side and bad side good side a matte finish should face away from you, this is the correction. Regular riboon just lifts up reom the front and snaps back in place. two little plastic tabs on back of ribbon case fits in two little holes in carrier. Hop this helps real hard to describe.just works...

Want to purchase Correctronic gx6750 Manual ASAP

The Brother USA site has the manual as a PDF: http://www.brother-usa.com/manuals/default.aspx?PGID=10&R3ModelID=GX6750 . The direct link to the English language version is: http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Users%20Manual/UM_GX6750_EN_214.PDF .The manual for the Correctronic GX-6750 is also available to registered users at HelpOwl. You must be logged in to access the PDF: http://www.helpowl.com/manuals/Brother/GX6750/42497 .

I don't see any options to purchase the manual. However, if you save the PDF, you can probably get it printed and bound at any print shop (UPS Store, FedEx Kinkos, etc).

I hope this helps.

Brother GX-6750 correctronic

Check the print wheel to see if any spokes are bent or missing, be sure that you have the proper correction tape (tack free) and that you are not in proportional space or have an international print wheel.

Brother Correctronic 40 Not striking

You’re right Brother authorized service centers are hard to come by and now that the one that I was working for went bankrupt I can’t buy parts any longer.

Let me see if I understand the problem. When you start typing it’s ok and as you continue typing it get’s lighter then it finally stops printing? If you let the machine sit like overnight it starts all over? If so what you need is a .20¢ rubber bumper used to lessen the hammer noise.

What happens is the rubber get’s sticky with the heat generated from use. I have tried to find a substitute (for the Brother part) and nothing I have found lasts very long. If you just remove the bumper the hammer makes a terrible racket (too noisy for more people), and I suspect if it were used without the bumper the hammer mechanism would rattle apart after a short time.

I know this can be repaired easily but not cheaply. The machine is old, it’s time to consider a replacement. Sorry!

Not typing the correct letters

The ML-300 needs to be reset each time the Daisy Wheel is removed or replaced or if the Keyboard Switch changes position. According to Brother, if this is not done the typewriter will print incorrect characters. Try these steps: 1) Open the Top Cover. There is a lever directly behind the Daisy Wheel. Pull the lever back towards you. Remove the Daisy Wheel by pulling it up and out. 2) Verify that it is the Standard Daisy Wheel that came with your machine and not a Symbol or International Daisey Wheel. Write down the Pitch (10, 12, or dual pitch 1012) printed on the wheel. 3) Reinstall the Daisy Wheel (the plastic top ear goes to your right.) Push the lever (step 1) forward. 4) Press the ALT key plus the PITCH key and the number 1 key simultaneously. Verify the Pitch setting is the same as is printed on the Daisy Wheel. 5) Press the CODE key plus the RESET key and the letter Q key simultaneously. This will reset the typewriter mechanism and align (or time, in technical terms) the carriage mechanism. Check if the typewriter prints correctly now. If still incorrect, perform these additional steps. 6) Verify the three position Keyboard Switch (inside the top cover, on the right side, at the bottom) is in the I=Standard position. The other positions are: II=International and III=Symbol. 7) If the Keyboard Switch is in the correct position, slide it to position III and then back to I. (This will clean the switch contacts in case they are dirty and not making good electrical contact. 8) Press the CODE key plus the RESET key and the letter Q key combination again to reset the typewriter mechanism. Check if the typewriter prints correctly now. If still incorrect, the only other things I can think of is that: 1) an incorrect Daisy Wheel is installed that does not work in the ML-300. Brother sell a "B type" Daisy Wheel with two plastic ridges/raised slots below the center of the Daisy Wheel (viewed with the raised top tab on your left.) The B type are incompatible with your machine. 2) the typewriter has failed and needs repair.
