Question about Sharp R-510HW Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Micro Schematic diagram

I have a R-510FK micro. Am replacing the interlock switch (one of three that is triggered in part by the door opening and closing). There are two terminals on the normally open switch, with two wires connected together on ea terminal. I'm trying to find which two wires go together on either terminal. Connecting the wrong pair causes the micro to operate when the door is open. Where can I find a schematic?

Have you checked behind the operator console? There's usually a tech sheet inside these units that contain a basic schematic and troubleshooting tips.

Sharps don't have schematics inside anymore, but I have uploaded the diagram to my site for you.

It's here: http://207.234.249.73/mwd/r510fk_wiring.jpg

My oven suddenly stopped working

Most microwave ovens have up to 4 micro switches in the door latch, it's a safety interlock. These can go bad, and cause the oven to not function.
Micro switches are pretty inexpensive, and can be replaced. You need to open the oven, and then identify exactly which micro switches you need. Both my current microwave ovens have done this, and I've replaced the bad switches. They work fine now.

Blows fuse when you open door

Be-safe, Un-plug your microwave oven ,

Open the microwave cover ,
Close and open door few times to check the door latch(es) and switch(es).
Door switch assembly may has one or more micro switches.( Most switches are black or grey and about 1,25 in long X 3/4 in wide X 5/6 in thick with two or three wire connections).
Making sure door latch close and open these micro-switches.

You can hear the switch "clicks" when small switch pin or lever is pressed.

Sometime these door micro-switches pin or lever get stuck or broken.

You can take couple pictures before remove wires or micro switches

You can buy these switches for about 3-7 dollars online. Some web sites have video showing how to check them. (Using Volt-Ohm meter)

I have a amv6167bds and convection works but no micro

Check the door safety interlock switches ... tiny micro switches found near the latch mech inside the cabinet.

If they are faulty, the oven thinks the door is open and will not turn on the 'heat' in microwave mode.

I'm experiencing the same exact problem as theresagolde experienced. PROBLEM:Our microwave stopped working suddenly. It's a GE JVM1330 and was made in 1996. The buttons on the control panel work...

You can modify a standard, typical micro switch available at many places or, you can get an exact replacement from GE parts placed or you can try www.repairclinic.com or you can try a FixYa.com advertiser.

You are correct in trying the safety interlock switches ... they cannot stand the opening and closing of the door while the machine is running. To improve the live cycle of these tiny switches is NEVER open the door while the oven is operating.

My microwave wont turn on. the power works, clock, timer and all electrical is working, it just wont turn on.

Most likely you have an interlock microswitch problem or a latch problem. as you just open or just close the door VERY slowly listen for 3 distinct clicks one for each of the 3 interlocks. Two you will hear as you press the door open button and the last one you will hear as the door just opens or closes. If you do NOT have 3 clicks you have a bad micro-switch.
The micro-switches you can purchase on line here:

Owners manual: (Provided only for telphone contacts in first 2 pages.)

I think you just have a simple micro-switch problem. However... if the latch assembly that holds the switch is cracked or broken it will have to be replaced. I have seen the plastic latch assembly fail causing the switch not to work properly.

Everything works but it will not heat food

Check the door safety interlock micro switches. Others will po9int to the very expensive magnetron and it might be that but I don't think so. Still others will tell you that it is the capacitor ... and it might be that. If you regularly open the door while the oven is operating, the tiny contacts become damaged from the arcing. When the interlock switches can not longer tell the oven the door is in fact closed, the magnetron will not come on .. and there will be no heat.

It is probably worth removing the cover to check the $2.99 micro switches ...

Make sense?

Hi,

It sounds like one of the door micro switches is bad. There are three micro switches typically. A primary interlock, a secondary interlock and a monitor switch. It is most likely the primary or secondary interlock switch. You may need to take your switches to a professional appliance shop to determine which one is bad.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Microwave lights up but does not heat or turn table when start button is pushed

Check your door interlock switch. Unplug the device, remove the cover DO NOT TOUCH THE SILVER CAN - POTENTIALLY LETHAL. Locate the small, probably black micro switch. Test it with a volt/ohm meter or other contunity tester. It should read "closed" when the door is closed and "open" when the door is open.

If you are like me, you turn the machine off by opening the door. When you do this, power sparks between the small contacts in the micro switch and eventually burns them up. When this happens, the machine thinks the door is open and will not turn on the magnatron - thus - no heat.

Find a replacement switch at a electronics or appliance parts place. You may have to provide make and model for an exact replacement. If you are handy, you can adapt any regular micro switch.

Let me know if this works for you.

Micro blow circuit

You have a faulty interlock switch. This is one of two or three switches in every microwave that are operated by the door. The interlock switch is wired to blow the fuse if you try to run the oven with the door open. The switch may have gotten knocked out of adjustment (say by slamming the oven door) or its contacts stuck closed. If there are no other problems with the oven, a new switch should clear this up.

Fuse

The Interlock Monitor Switch is an added
safety check on the Primary and
Secondary Interlock Switches. If the
Primary and Secondary Interlock Switches
allow the oven to operate with the door
open, the Monitor Switch will blow the
fuse.

You can get more information about adjuting the interlock switch from this link

http://136.166.4.200/contents/Microwave/LMVM1935xx/LMVM1935xx_Service_Manual.pdf

sections 7-11 thru 7-12 discuss the door interlock adjustment that will cause the 20A fuse to blow if it isn't set up right. I hope this helps you...
