Question about Heating & Cooling

Hey I have a sterling CF-75 natural gas garage heater, which I just bought and installed. Its an older unit which did not come with a wiring diagram.I wired it up to a 20amp breaker and fired it up,it ran for about 5min(fan never kicked on)and then blew the 20amp breaker.Every time i would reset it,it would blow immediately again.looked for chafing wires grounded out and do not see anything.I assume I had it wired correctly because it did run for a short period.Im lost please help.Do you have a wiring digram?

The fuse generally blows out when the system is either overloaded or there is a short circuit (another name for overload). Since there are no shorting indicators (smell and smoke) means the system is fine and it runs too for a short while, try using a higher value fuse/breaker.

I couldn't find a speck of a schematic on the net, but I have a guess as to what's going on. Obviously, for the unit to be popping the 20A breaker, there's a serious current pull, and the most likely component that I can think of on the unit would be the fan. It sounds like the fan motor was slightly shorted, drawing current for a few minutes, before "melting down" the laminate covering on it's windings, and culminating into a full blown short.
What you can try to do is to disconnect the motor, and see if the unit runs for a few seconds, at least. That would indicate a bad fan motor.
I'll check a few nebulous sites that have helped in the past later today, and get back with you if I find something on the wiring.
Hope this helps.

Bought a sterling 75 c garage heater burner lights but then 24 v transformer burns out

I didn't find that model but did see a pretty standard wiring schematic for Sterling garage heaters in one installation manual. I'm sure they didn't change much. I did notice they use a 50va transformer, not 40 which is likely what is getting used now. Don't think that would fix it, just an idea. Put a 5 amp fuse inline on the red side of the secondary side of the transformer. This will protect it. I'm willing to bet the ignitor section on the low voltage common is wired wrong. Remove the tstat wires, buy a resettable fuse and install it first. Then get the fan running first. If there is a g terminal jump red to green. This is fan only, start simple, hope this helps

I have a Sterling garage furnace, pilot is on ,but main burner will not light.

Be sure you turned the Control knob from Pilot to ON. Without doing that the heater will not turn. If that's not the problem, the Thermopile may need replacing. Also, check the volume of gas at the heater. It should be a minimum of 5 to 7 water column inches. If it has a wall thermostat, be sure the wires are correctly installed at the heater and the wall thermostat and the it's turned up higher than the ambient air temperature in the garage. If this is an older installation, be sure the exhaust vent piping is not blocked.

Green light flashes when i try to start my TFO 75 garage furnace

Looked at Sterling garage heaters in general. 3 blinks read pressure switch. You should have code chart on furnace door. Pressure switch symptoms are blocked vent or moisture in small hoses connected to pressure switch or bad pressure switch. If small hoses have sags take off one end and dump or both ends and blow through.

I have an older sterling gas furnace hung from the garage ceiling that cuts out intermittently . It does not trip the breaker but often if I reset the breaker at the fuse panel box it will start up.

Hi,
The heater is going into "lockout"... it should be flashing a code on the ignition control that will tell you why it went into the lockout condition...

My guess would be that the high limit switch is bad or going bad and it is cutting out when it shouldn't be... or the flame sensor is loosing contact and cutting the burner off...

You could try to clean off the flame rod with a soft cloth...

Burners comes on but the blower won't start up when the unit has reach the temp. The unit shuts down.

You need to use a multimeter to determine whether or not line voltage is reaching the fan motor. If it is then you likely need a new motor and or capacitor. If not check for a fan switch, loose wires or PCB Board if it has one.
