Camera locks up with SD card

Put the SD memory card into an USB card reader and plug the card reader into the USB port of a working computer to check if the memory card is working.
If the computer cannot detect the memory card as an external storage device and cannot open the files or folders and it cannot be formatted in FAT32 then the SD memory card is faulty and needs to be replaced..

When I put the disc into my camera I get a message that the card is locked. "slide lock to write"

Read this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SD_card#Optional_write-protect_tab
If after sliding it you still get the same message then the card controler has detected that the memory chip inside it is about to die and has locked it to allow you enough time to recover all the files from it. Once the files are copied junk the card, it's dead.

Memory dose not format

Please try the card on another PC if the card is not detected in your PC and if the card cannot be formated then check and see if the tiny LOCK on the side of the card- to protect erase- is put to ON. If so reset and if this wont work still the card is faulty.

I just bought a new sd 2mb sandisk card but computer won't detect it

Are you using a Memory Card adapter? Or are you using the SD slots that are built into your computer?
Go to the 'Start' menu and choose "My Computer"

The card should be there, if not, then make sure that the little 'lock' button isn't set to lock.

A lot of times when you insert the card, it will switch the position from unlocked to locked.

Good luck

"Card Locked"

Hi!
There's a small switch on the memory card reader inside the camera which detects that the card is locked. Most likely this switch is broken. You can try to point it with needle or something but I'm afraid you will have to give it away for a repair to a local repair shop or Canon service center.

The card is locked

Hi!
Check the lock switch on the SD card. If it's off then it's probably a broken switch inside the camera memory card readed. The memory card readers in cameras have a small switch that detects if the SD card LOCK switch is on. This is a hardware problem, you should give it for a repair - it's not a hard repair - I usually cut off the switch and put a wire accross so the camera allways thinks that the card is not locked.

Hope this helps!
