How do I remove MSN as the toolbar for internet?

  • 1 more comment
  • Anonymous Oct 10, 2010

Unfortunately this did not fix the problem. I need to clarify that I Windows XP. When I click on Control Panel, there is no link for MSN Toolbar or Bing Bar. I did go inot "Set Program Access and Defaults" and found the Windows Components Wizard and within that MSN Explorer was checked. I unchecked that and then restarted my computer. The MSN explorer toolbar still came up when I restarted. The Google explorer toolbar is smaller and is to the right of the MSN explorer toolbar at the top of my screen. I need more assistance to resolve.

  • Anonymous Oct 10, 2010

I replied to the e-mail from hmerchant110 advising that this the steps recommended did not resolve the issue and asked for additional assistance from him.

  • Anonymous Oct 10, 2010

This issue is not resolve with the steps that have been given and taken. Again, I do not have any MSN or BING option when I go into the Control Panel to add/remove or in the Run box type in appwiz.cpl.
To restate the problem: When I use my explorer, MSN pops up along with the MSN/Bing Webpage. I want to delete this. I have Windows XP.

Would you mind if I ask you to give me few minutes so that I can prepare the step by step instructions with some pictures (labelled and illustrated)? In the meantime, if you can, please let me know which Internet Explorer version you are using, like Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), or Internet Explorer 7, etc..

Thanking you...

Well, I am not sure whether you've received my comment or not, but let me proceed with the first few steps:

Open "Control Panel" and double-click the "Add/Remove Programs"

When the Add/Remove Program windows is opened up, click "Add/Remove Windows Component" (or simply press Alt+W on the keyboard)..

Another windows will open up, from there, scroll down and locate "MSN Explorer"

And Deselect the select check box... click "Next", wait for few seconds and then "Finish". Again you open the "Add/Remove windows component" dialog box and locate msn explorer, you'll see it, but the checked box shouldn't be selected, the size will be displayed, but it's no longer installed on your system. If you want to delete the folder as well, open "My Computer" then "C:" and then "Program Files" and delete the "MSN" folder.

There is another MSN toolbar as shown below:

By default, this is installed with Windows XP, Internet Explorer 6, but once you upgrade the Internet Explorer to IE8, this shouldn't be there, if it's there, you have to remove it from the "Manage Add-Ons", to do this, open Internet Explorer, click "Tools" and from the drop down menu, select "manage Add-ons" and on the Manage Add-ons window, locate "Msn Explorer Toolbar" and disable it...

I hope this will definitely fix your issue. If you need further help, let me know.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

I would suggest you to uninstall the toolbar and check. Follow the steps mentioned below.
a.Close all Internet browsers.
b.Uninstall the toolbar through your "Add/Remove Programs" utility. Choose the "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of your computer screen, and then click "Control Panel." Choose "Add/Remove Programs" and the programs that are installed on your PC will be listed. Choose "MSN toolbar" and then "Change/Remove." You will be instructed to verify if you wish to continue with the uninstall. Choose "OK" and continue to follow the instructions by choosing "Next" until the uninstall completes.
c.Uninstall the toolbar by using the "Run" utility if you are running Windows XP. Click "Start" and then "Run" and type "appwiz.cpl" in the text box. Press "Enter" and the programs that are installed on your PC will be listed. Choose "MSN toolbar" and click "Remove." You will be instructed to verify if you wish to continue with uninstall. Choose "OK" and continue to follow the instructions until uninstall completes.
d.Open a browser and verify that the MSN toolbar is no longer displayed. You may need to restart your PC after uninstall is complete.

My Internet Explore says it's operated without addon, How can I make it with addon?

Some add-ons are known to be _NOT_ compatible with Internet Explorer 7 or 8 or 9.
So, rather than "crashing" when you start Internet Explorer, it tells you that it has bypassed the "bad" add-on.

If you use the add-on (Yahoo! toolbar? MSN toolbar? Bing toolbar? Google toolbar?),
then you need to download the most-recent version, and install it.

Otherwise, just use I.E. *without* using that add-on.

How to reset toolbar

Yahoo toolbar only allows to be deleted from the computer once installed. Deciding to delete toolbars requires ascertaining the location where the program is embeded. For example, toolbars maybe located on the computers desktop as an icon deleteable by right clinking on the icon to make availble the delete feature. Also, the toolbar may have been installed to complement several program least deleteable. For example, the yahoo internet browser is downloaded together with yahoo chats messengers, tool bars amongs several function internet features. It becomes impossible to delete the dispaly tool bar as means to removing the prorgams. Decide on the situation requesting tool bar deletion to determine the processes of resolution. Uninstalling the entire yahoo bundle of prorgams would make least available yahoo features completely. Once yahoo has bundle prorgams have be uninstalled, the computer lacks the program fucntions priorly provided and require replacement either with an improvde yahoo program or similar prorgams like msn, mozzilla, chrome, googgle, internet 8 as only mentioble internet browser prorgams.

Msn toolbar has encountered an error

Internet Explorer is your browser, the "window" in which you view webpages like Google, Yahoo, etc. If that's still not clear, there's a nice little one minute video and some simple explanations here: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/10/what-is-browser.html

As far as resolving your MSN Toolbar issue, your best bet is to go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and select "MSN Toolbar". Click Uninstall, and simply remove it.

My MSN

to start off go to add/remove programs and uninstall yahoo toolbar. Then go to http://toolbar.msn.com/tour_suite/tabs.aspx to download the msn toolbar. That way no pop up blocker can stop it. About the DSL speed - experience has told me that your dsl modem is bad and replacing it would work. Provided you already did you could to remove spyware/malware using utilities such as SpyBot Defender, Windows Defender, and Lavasoft Ad-aware. All of those programs are free and I would advise you to try those first.
