Question about Computers & Internet
The hard drive lock is an anti theft measure that is triggered when the computer is disassembled and hard drive removed. The purposes are protecting the computer from theft and protecting privacy of data in hard drive.
The key is held in an external chip, if the problem is locked hard drive, and not the BIOS password, then the hard drive can only be unlocked by manufacturer.
If the password has not been set by you, but the hard drive went into lock mode on its own, and if the laptop has not been disassembled, then the unlock job will be done for free by Acer. Here the repair link.
